Well, it should be noted that Brett got hurt that year and only played 117 games.

Had he finished the year over .400, he still would have had less than 200 hits....

Cardinals rookie releiver, Andre Granillo, became the first player ever to get his first win and first save on the same day.

Wilyer Abreu with inside-the-park home run, grand slam in the same game.
Only 6th player in history to so it and 1st since Roger Maris 67 years ago

Craig Biggio, a member of the 3,000 hits club, caught for Nolan Ryan. He was the catcher for Nolan Ryan’s 100th win as an Astro.

Tony Gwynn struck out only 434 times in his career over 20 years. Nolan Ryan struck Gwynn out 9 times, more than any other pitcher.

Nolan Ryan struck out 19 batters three times.
In 1974, vs the Tigers, Ryan struck out 19 batters in 11 innings… and lost 1-0.

Nolan Ryan has the most games with 10+ Ks all-time with 215. Closest active pitcher is Max Scherzer with 113.

Nolan Ryan struck out a total of 37 hitters in 3 straight starts In 1973. He did it again 3 straight starts in May 1973.

Interesting, but are we sure Nolan Ryan struck out Tommie Aaron or Ken Boyer? Tommie didn't get a ton of playing time, and Ken Boyer would have only overlapped with Nolan in '68 and '69 in the National League at the tale end of Ken's career when he wasn't playing much.

But I do think he struck out these brothers in addition to the ones you've listed: Tony and Chris Gwynn, Eddie and Rich Murray, Cal Jr. and Billy Ripken, Graig and Jim Nettles. Pretty crazy stuff.

3 Cubs have hit 3 homers in a game vs STL. All 3 instances have come on July 4 (Busch yesterday, Moises Alou in 2003, & some guy in 1939).

Not sure if it’s a record, but I can’t imagine it’s happened very often: this week, the Pirates shut out the Cardinals over an entire three game series. Immediately after, the Pirates got shut out by the Mariners over an entire three game series.

Mel Ott is the only player to hit 300 Home Runs in a single stadium--he hit 323 at the Polo Grounds.

If you are wondering, Babe Ruth is 7th on the list with 259 at Yankee Stadium. I was surprised that Paul Konerko is tied with Babe for 7th place with 259 at Comiskey.

The top ten:
1) Mel Ott 323 (Polo Grounds)
2) Sammy Sosa 293 (Wrigley Field)
3) Ernie Banks 290 (Wrigley Field)
4) Mickey Mantle 266 (Yankee Stadium)
5) Mike Schmidt 265 (Veterans Stadium)
6) Frank Thomas 263 (Comiskey Park 2)
7) Babe Ruth 259 (Yankee Stadium)
8) Paul Konerko 259 (Comiskey Park 2)
9) Stan Musial 252 (Sportsman's Park)
10) Lou Gehrig 251 (Yankee Stadium)

Nolan Ryan faced Tommie Aaron 3 times and did not strike him out. Aaron flew out to CF, RF, and sac bunted in his 3 PAs.

Nolan Ryan never faced Ken Boyer. Though they did appear in the same game twice. Boyer pinch hit late in both games but faced RP Al Jackson and did not strike out in either game.

Darren Lewis started his career perfect. He played a perfect CF. He didn’t make an error in any of his first 300+ games across 4+ seasons and nearly 3,000 innings. However, he won his only Gold Glove in 1994, the year he made his first error of his career. (He made 2 that season).

Nolan McLean became the first ever Mets starter to win his first 3 starts. This team has been around for 63 seasons.

The two longest active streaks of games played without a stolen base belong to Josh Bell (913) and Carlos Correa (745).

Also, when would he have struck out Saberhagen or Clemens?

Nolan was in the NL when both were in the AL. When Saberhagen went to the Mets, Nolan was with the Rangers.

The Astros and Rangers never went to the World Series during Nolan's time with those teams.

Is this post referring to Spring Training games?

If you haven't seen the highlight yet, check out Trevor Story's HR yesterday. It hit off the OF's glove, touched the foul pole, went back into the glove, then popped out into foul territory. It was wild -- and will never be seen again.

It was a home run in 0 of 30 parks

The Astros Zach Cole made his major league debut last night against the Braves and hit a home run on the very first pitch he saw as a big leaguer!

Finished the game going 3 for 4 with 4 RBIs.

The Athletics’ current Max Muncy played middle infield on the same High School team as Jacob Wilson. Muncy and Wilson played 2nd and ss in High School and now played several games together with the A’s at the same positions. Doubt that has happened many times.

With his walk-off grand slam last night against the Dodgers, Patrick Bailey became the first person to hit a walk-off inside-the-park home run AND a walk-off grand slam in the same season.

He's almost certainly the first catcher to do it over the course of his entire career, and may possibly be the first player to do it in their career, period, given how rare walk-off inside-the-park home runs are in general.

Roberto Clemente hit a walk off inside the park grand slam in 1956.
