Default Entire Red Hood series canceled due to writer's social media posts

I will not even link what they said but it was inappropriate comments about the shooting yesterday. I am sure you can find them if you look.

I am surprised that DC took this drastic of an action though.

Red Hood was an a new on-going series and Red Hood #1 was headed to a 2nd printing.

Not only are issues #2 & #3 canceled with all future issues, but they are refunding issue #1. I am not sure if that will make them more valuable in the long run or short run or whatever. There are a lot of copies out there.

I just saw an article that DC is recalling all #1 copies and crediting the shops. Along with that, any customers that want to return them can. I can't think of this happening before, entirely unprecedented and I was collecting when Stan Lee was doing free signings in my town. To the same point, I can't say this has ever happened where a political figure was assassinated and so many people acting the way they have and sharing that with the world to see. Actions have consequences regardless of your beliefs or political affiliation, the company you work for has the right to reduce liability to protect their business. With DC reigniting the DCEU, they just set the precedent of what they expect out of their employees, actors and contractors that work for them. Bottom line, in cases like this, if you have nothing good to say, its best to stay silent and if you don't, surely dont post it for the world to see.

Red Hood gone from ePack. There were no copies of #1 available for sale but the pre-order was still posted for issues #2 and #3. All erased now.

Also, be aware its not the character that was cancelled but this series due to the writer being fired for being a liability

There are rumors that they are changing the new Hush stories to retcon him leaving or maybe to give him a new launch with a new team. I hope they keep the artist just since he was collateral damage.

Completely unprecedented. Issue #1 dropped a day or two after the writer was fired. Even where pre-sales of issue #1 were still up. There is an auction right now for a lot of them over $500. The most popular issues seems to be the Jim Lee "virgin" variant. Some conversation about blank covers being used to do artwork of Charlie Kirk on them.

Total FOMO. There is nothing about this book that will cause long term value I'm aware of. I'd shy away from buying into this as it's not real demand IMHO.

The Jim Lee virgin cover is the 1:50 so outside of some store or artist exclusive covers, that's the rarest. It is also the best cover - an original homage to Death in the Family, Batman #428.

Graded copies with the "recalled edition" notation are probably always going to have a premium and the notoriety about this exact book will never go away. I still agree with you 100% though. DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK right now. If you want it, wait for the hype to die down.

I personally sold hundreds of copies and not one single customer wanted the refund. There are a lot of these.

There is a Gotham Sampler for Batman Day 2025 that isnt supposed to be distributed until 9/20, but your LCS has copies now.

It's a free book (cost the LCS $7.50 for a bundle of 25). I have not heard officially that its been recalled so you can probably get a copy reserved if you contact your LCS. They came in on the ~9/4 shipment.

EDIT: It was recalled too. https://bleedingcool.com/comics/dc-c...y-now-as-well/

I've been out of the comic circle for awhile. Are there newsstand editions anymore? So a retailer like Barnes&Nobles or similar would send them back on the recall? Doubtful with the demand but what's the chance hobby shops sent them back?

For Red Hood #1, they recalled and shops were all asked to take the book off the shelves but you have to figure most just said they were all sold. DC just pretends they believe them. If a shop was caught selling it now though it could risk its account.

The 2nd printing was scrapped and issues #2 & #3 were all refunded & never printed or shipped. Also all re-orders for issue #1 were refunded and never shipped, whatever was still at the distributors.

The Gotham Sampler was already shipped to LCS though but they werent supposed to give them out until 9/20. Those have been refunded. If they ask for them to be returned, any shop that doesnt will risk their Lunar account by not shipping them back. So far they havent asked that.

They do not have retailer versions of comics anymore because only Lunar and Penguin are distributors. LCS and book stores all get them direct from them.

They changed the Gotham Sampler to Immortal Legend Batman for the digital version, but stores can now order a replacement physical copy and it has Knightfight instead.
