Default Tobacco (mini) card bulk storage

Happy Friday everyone. I'm hoping to solve a problem that has been bugging me for over twenty years when Topps reintroduced mini tobacco sized cards with the 205/206 lines. Allen & Ginter made them a staple and there are now multiple good options for storing these in pages, sleeves, top loaders, and magnetics. Specialized bulk storage options however still appear to be non-existent. Mixing them with standard sized cards in the most common cardboard boxes is awkward, frustrating and an inefficient use of space.

I'm hoping someone reading this has found a better way to store bulk raw or sleeved tobacco cards. Perhaps it's a purpose built solution or simply a modification of an existing box. Whatever it is I'd love to see it. I was shocked that with the rise of 3D printing there is only one listing on Etsy for a very small box without a lid. Maybe I'm just projecting and this isn't a big issue for other collectors?

Thanks!

I designed and 3D printed these boxes to store my mini collection and extras. They're designed to perfectly fit BCW sleeved minis, Ultra Pros and unsleeved will have a little wiggle room. I made a monster box style and had various length single row boxes. Let me know if you'd be interested in either. I also 3D printed the little dividers for these boxes as well.

Those look fantastic! Model up a version with a lid so you can stack them, and they'd be absolutely perfect!

Holy crap these are incredible. I'm definitely interested. What are the dimensions of the monster box style in the fourth picture, will it fit inside a monster box if the cardboard dividers are removed?

Like Hollywood mentioned I could add a lid option if you really wanted. I had designed the single row boxes with lids when I first started but with how often I'm moving minis around they were just annoying, although I could see how they'd be useful for stacking.

Thanks! It's been fun finding different ways to use 3D printing to enhance my card collection.

If you are interested in a new side hustle, adding a lid would move a ton of these. Perfect dimensions for Kallax and other cube shelving units too.

Wow, those are amazing! I agree that if you add a lid to these, you could easily sell them. It definitely fits a need that no one has tackled yet.

It also gives me yet another reason to buy a 3D printer that I've been holding off on...

What if instead of a lid, I printed them tall enough for the minis to be fully in the box. I could add a lip on the back so when sliding in another box on top there would be a lip on each corner to allow stacking.

I only have 1 printer large enough to print these boxes so if I can avoid a lid it'd help a lot.

Stacking is definitely at the top of the wish list. If it can do that without a full lid that would be fine. I'd have an easier time keeping dust out on my own than figuring out how to make them stack.

I think you're on the right track here. Another idea is instead of a traditional lid that covers all 4 vertical sides of the lower box, would it work to just make a flat sheet that slides into a groove/lip of the lower box? That would help limit the materials needed for the lid. And if you could engineer the boxes to stack nicely both with or without a lid, that at least gives the option for people to only get a lid for the top box in the stack. I personally like having lids for all my boxes both for stacking purposes as well as keeping dust and such out, so maybe there's a way that this type of thing can help make lids more time and supply effective

Something loosely like this is what I'm envisioning, didn't find a perfect example but this gets at the lid idea at least

I love the 3D printed ones and also would be interested in some with a lid. As an outside the box alternative, let me suggest old iPhone 7 boxes. They fit 250 sleeved Topps 206 cards perfectly.

This will probably be the design I go with. With added raised corners on the back of the box to help stacking.

I'll work on the design this week and try to get one printed up to show you guys if I have some downtime on my big printer.

I guess if you're interested PM me and we can discuss more details.

Looking forward to the results! I would likely be interested in a couple if you can make the stacking with lid work. Sounds silly, but having some boxes like this would probably make me more likely to work on some more mini sets beyond my Twins team sets

I love 3d prints. I’ve printed a few display stands for my office.

You can fit commons into the larger slider boxes sideways and then just drop them into standard-row boxes. That's what I used to do.

Just a bit of an update for those that were interested. Added corners to the back for alignment when stacking and notches for a lid to slide in. Made the first lid too small so I'm printing another that's hopefully the right size and maybe add a little nub to make sliding it out easier. These use a lot of filament so I had to order some more, in the meantime I'll try to figure out how I'll go about shipping.

Any way to assemble this product vice a large one piece container? I’m definitely interested as well.

Missed this earlier, but this is awesome. Definitely would be interested in a couple if you go that route!

Been a bit sidetracked with some of my other printing projects. Going to try and figure out pricing and shipping options tonight!
