And Judge leads the league in total bases at 350.

He also leads the league in intentional walks which tells you that when the game is on the line, teams don't want Judge swinging.

22 more Ks than Judge. And one of the main reasons given for Judge not winning MVP in 2017 was his high K rate.

Maybe since it's too close to call (for some people), voters should go with team overall record or head to head. Yankees have a 1 game advantage over the Mariners for the better record and they whooped the Mariners 5 - 1 head to head.

Or head to head stats in those 6 games.

Judge went 8 for 23 with 2 home runs, 5 runs, 6 RBIs, and 5 walks.

Raleigh went 5 for 23 with 2 home runs, 2 runs, 5 RBI's, and 2 walks.

Stats don't tell the full story of value either. Catcher > Outfielder.

If Cal gets to 60 HRs, he wins a close race. If he doesn't, Judge wins. Either way, there will be a lot of grown men crying.

Raleigh gets Robbed either way. Catch position takes it out of a player.

Hey everyone!
This is definitely going to be a very tough decision for the committee, but I am going with Cal. I feel that Cal has had a more of a historical season that Judge, and I feel that Judge just does not cut it for this year as the AL MVP, not saying that Judge does not deserve it, just that I feel Cal has had the better overall season. If you are a statistical person, you could say that the batting average and WAR and everything are low for Cal, but in my opinion those statistics don’t matter when it comes to the amazing season Cal has had over Judge.

The betting odds in the other thread cited as the tale that this is a dead race in the other thread also being a dead tie is just more telling this race is going either way. (and I still would personally say Cal)
Yeah bwar doesn’t takes pitch framing into consideration

Which war takes into account low pitches called for strikes because you are 6'7"?

Aside from HR and RBI (and SB), Judge is far ahead of Dumper in just about all other counting stats:

bWAR: Judge 9.0 vs Raleigh 6.9
Hits: 170 vs 141
BA: .326 vs .247
OBP: .451 vs .360
SLG: .672 vs .589
OPS: 1.123 vs .949
OPS+: 209 vs 169

The whole last 2 rows of BRef's batting leaders page (lots of obscure metrics) is all Judge: RE24, WPA, WPA/LI, cWPA, REW, rOBA, Rbat+. Most traditional counting stats, obscure statcast-era stats....Judge is #1 in just about all of them.

Boog Powell beat out Yaz for the MVP in 1970. Ted Williams lost the MVP one of the years he won the triple crown and the year he hit .406. There will always be a subjective nature to MVP voting. That's why Raleigh will win.

Your avatar says it all.

Okay so Cal has had the better overall season as long as we don't consider and compare player stats for awards....

If stats determined MVP, why is there a vote?
