Relax -- it was in response to another poster's claim that catching instead of playing the outfield, like Judge, suppresses Cal's hitting. But I pointed out he wouldn't be playing right field due to his speed -- he'd likely be at 1B or DH. And hitting full-time at DH comes with its own complications and adjustments.

Maris hit 39 and 33 out with the 61 in between.

I think 33 is floor for a healthy Cal and would put the over/under at 40. Sorry for going slightly off tangent there.

Wrong! Just stating it’s easier to sun bathe out in right than slogging 9 inning behind the plate, overall, as a player, in the game of baseball. Never said it suppressed hitting. Nice try bro!

Is this you?:

"if Cal was out there sun-bathing in right field all season he might have the AL record already."

You were clearly implying that if he weren't playing catcher and instead were playing an easier defensive position like right field, Cal would have a better home run total, correct?

Soto is the Mets everyday RF and he has a 13 sprint speed. And 1 fielding run value....

OAA (Statcast) has Soto as having the second-worst range value of all outfielders with -11 runs, behind only Nick Castellanos' with -12 runs.

His sprint speed was in the 56th percentile when he debuted in 2018. This was after logging 953.0 innings in the outfield in minor league games.

As an infielder, Raleigh's natural transition would be to 1B, if any position.

Should have a side by side measurement with Stanton.

Surely Cal’s superior durability (10 extra games) must contribute to his MVP case? AJ not doing anyone any favors with his mid season sabbatical.

That's where volume stats come into play, namely WAR. Just because a player plays 10 more games, it doesn't mean they've been proportionally more valuable to their team. Sometimes, in fact, playing too many games can have detrimental effects to a player -- this was speculated to have been the case with Cal Ripken Jr, who never took a game off and whose body and performance probably would have benefitted from it.

Makes things complicated, but what about deducting the difference in WAR value between the actual replacement for the usual starter from that of the person who actually started in the place?

Agreed. MVP’s don’t just disappear mid-season.

Ohtani peaced out the last month of 2023 and still won unanimously.

Well he is the best player in baseball...that counts for something.

Judge has only had one month where his batting average was lower than Cal Raleigh's entire season batting average.

Was that duration of his injury?

Month of August when he came back from injury. Probably wasn't 100% when he came back, but the team needed him. He's hitting .333 this month.

Pretty sad Cal couldn’t boost his WAR more with 10 extra games.

Imagine an MVP hitting under the Mendoza line 3 months of the season.
