One of the best innings that Detroit batters have had in I’m not sure how long for a playoff game. The hitters looked focused and came through in the clutch and because of that they are able to advance and receive more opportunities !

I doubt Skubal will pitch more than once and this is going to make this series even more important that the Tigers respond in clutch opportunities.

The schedule sets up that if there's a game 5 Skubal would pitch it. Game 2 is Sunday, game 5 would be Friday.

Theres a 0% chance he doesn't pitch game 5 if needed.

Exactly. With 2 off days, game 5 would be on regular rest. Or maybe they could win in 4 and have Skubal set for game 1 of the ALCS.

How many innings are we hoping to get out of Troy Melton today as the starter?

I was getting pissed with all the missed chances again, until McKinstry came through.

However, Perez and Meadows looked clueless tonight (Meadows did at least square up one).

Great win.

I still want to know why Hinch thought Rafael Montero earlier in the game was a good idea.

Figured they would be 1-1 at this point. Just the other way round for the games. He does feel like we could have snuck out of Seattle stealing both. At least Skubal didn't get the loss.

Yea, I think if we knew going into it we'd be happy with a split in Seattle, they could've easily have lost both, too.

I'm not sure what can be done other than pray for the pitching to keep the score low. The ABs after the 2nd inning yesterday were just not very good at all.

We just need 1 at least, Skubal in Game 5.

Yeah, they need to hit more for sure. Vlad almost matched the entire output of the Tigers in 20 innings with one swing yesterday. He matched all the regular innings runs.

Team OPS of .545 and BA of .186 through five playoff games.

Reality setting it for this team.

That arrogant prick Scott Harris needs to add some real bats to the lineup this winter. If not, he needs to trade Skubal instead of letting him walk for nothing after next season.

They need bats, I think they make a run at Bregman again, but other than that, there's no shortstop out there unless you want to throw the bag at Bichette (and that seems highly unlikely). I could see them taking a stab at Bellinger to play center, but they really need right handed bats.

However, it's bizarre that all the good hitters who will definitely be starting for next years team (Keith/Tork/Greene/Carpenter/Dingler) all have managed to go ice cold the entire postseason run thus far and besides Tork all these guys have been ice cold for the last couple weeks of the regular season as well.

However, they simply need to win tomorrow to go back to Seattle with Skubal on the mound.

Are they resigning Torres who has been their best hitter this post season and most consistent all season? If not, Keith back to second. Baez is still going to be here. Meadows? You like his defense, but he can't hit. They need another bat, two for sure if Torres signs elsewhere. Starting pitcher and bullpen help of course.

They are definitely not signing Torres, who has been brutal since the ASB. (I suppose they would if he took another 1 year deal which seems more likely than it would've in early July)

I'd love to have Bichette but it's hard to see him leaving Toronto at the moment unless he gets an overwhelming offer in free agency (I'm good on giving him $250 million).

Ironically, Bellinger is crushing left handed pitching this season and struggling against righties. Also of note, his OPS in Yankee Stadium is over .900 and it's around .700 on the road. Definitely taking advantage of that short porch.

Looking at the free agent class, they're gonna have to trade for a bat. The Baseball Tonight guys made it sound like Arizona is ready to move on from Ketel Marte after this season.

Can they add some speed this offseason? I don't know if it's Hinch's philosophy now, the organization or just having a bunch of plodders, but Cal Raleigh stole more bases than anybody on this team besides McKinstry (the only guy above 8).

Ultimately, they still have the same problem as last off season. The lineup doesn't have anybody that is scary. Greene, Tork, Carp are the heart of the lineup and the ones that are supposed to damage. They all have flaws. I think opposing pitchers have confidence they can get them out. The Guardians have JRAM, Yankees have Judge, Mariners have JRod/Raleigh (see if he continues), Toronto have Vlad. MLB network calls them aircraft carriers. I just look at them as future HOF players who have an aura that lifts the team. I don't know if any of these type guys are even available on the trade market.

Greene is the closest, 36 HR and 111 RBIs is right in line. He just strikes out way too much and pitchers are learning how to take advantage of his big upper cut swing.
