Did not attend the National this year, but a good friend spotted a once-every-10-years Ichiro rookie, and he facilitated a deal. I paid the dealer via PP, and my friend will ship the card back to me when he gets home. I am PUMPED!

As for 2025 goals...

1) Add a 2001 Bowman Chrome Albert Pujols refractor auto. Can't have a faded auto or be too off-centered.
2) Complete my 2001 Topps Heritage chrome set (need 36 cards)
3) Complete my 2002 Topps Heritage chrome set (need 21 cards)
4) Add a 2001 Topps Chrome Retrofractor Ichiro
5) Attend the National and make some trades
6) Trade and consolidate some of my 90s stuff
7) Finish my 2003 - 2012 Topps Heritage refractor run (need 3 cards!)
Bonus goal: Add a 2001 SP Authentic Chirography Ichiro

Goal #1 and the bonus goal won't happen this year.

Down to 26 cards needed for my 2001 Topps Heritage chrome set.
Down to 5 cards needed for my 2002 Topps Heritage chrome set.

Hoping for some year-end $$$ to at least hit goal #4.
#1 - not gonna happen this year
#2 - only need 20 2001 Topps Heritage chromes
#3 - only need 5 2002 Topps Heritage chromes
#4 - maaaaybe in December
#5 - did not happen
#6 - I've been happy with my 90s card moves
#7 - all done
Bonus goal: looking unlikely.

I didn't include this as a goal, but I've made good progress on other Topps Heritage needs. I started the year needing 1016 black refractors and I'm down to needing 941.

what is your reason for not getting the Pujols BC Rookie Card?

Spent hobby money on real-life things. Some unplanned air travel that needed to happen, and some investing in myself. That investment will do well next year when I land my next job.

Collecting goal was to not sell anything significant. Yes, check check. Kept the 95% of the good stuff for retirement, now only couple years away.

But I did have fun messing around with the small potatoes stuff to still be involved in the hobby.

Well.....one product that was a major part of my goals may not even release this year (Platinum Anniversary).

Already completed my other goal....building the Heritage set with all the HOF blue ink autos.....

I was able to keep my SP purchases (mostly) in-check.

I think I will do exactly that. If I can find a nice copy around September, I'll be all over it.

Closing out the year!

1. Excellent progress. Sold more than I spent for the first time ever.
2. Great work on this across all sets except my 2004 Hot Hands, which is impossible to find.
3. Very close. At 89%. Just six cards away.
4. Not even close. I am too picky about eye appeal to have had a chance. Only at 10%.
5. Nope.

2025 Goals

1. Liquidate any non-PC stuff, starting with my PSA Master registries (Will Clark and Eddie Murray)

2. Start grading with PSA.

3. Finish my son's memorabilia display in his room. He has a few dozen signed baseballs and around 15 game bats from the 2023 Northwoods League season.

4. Help my son add to his Anthony Edwards PC.

5. Add 2+ game-used items from any of my favorite players (Darin Erstad, Will Clark, Eddie Murray, Bucky Jacobsen, Aaron Kurcz, Stacey Augmon)

6. Have Aaron Kurcz sign any cards on which I don't already have an IP signature. He only had a few dozen cards issued, and I am collecting signed and unsigned versions of everything. Only five IP-signed cards are missing, six 1/1, and a card numbered 25 (2011 Bowman Draft Prospect Autographs Red #AK Aaron Kurcz /25).

7. Add at least 1 Bucky Jacobsen card. I need 3 non-1/1 cards. Wanted: 2005 Topps Black /54.

8. Add at least 10 Darin Erstad cards from my want list. I need about 80 non-1/1 cards out of around 2,700 different.
1. Didn't really start on this until this month.

2. LOL. Same.

3. Almost ready to build it in my neighbor's wood shop. Kiddo has another 10 bats.

4. Added about 100 cards and tons of rookies before they started to go up in price.

5. Added an Erstad bat and another jersey.

6. I need to bundle everything up for him to sign. I'm hoping to make it out to meet up with him for pitching lessons for my son.

7. Nothing crossed off my wants this year, but I added around 25 tougher cards that are duplicates. I also added some IP-signed cards I didn't have. I need to see if Bucky can sign everything I don't already have a copy signed. He's pretty responsive on social media. Maybe next year.

8. I lost count. I think I've crossed off about 10 and added 100s of duplicates. Finished a second 90-card Topps Tek player run and am now over halfway through the Diffractor run.

  • complete 2017 pro debut, 2024 heritage, and 2025 pro debut sets
  • formalize the target list for my newly started player collection
  • finish moving 100% of my PC into binders
1. Done: sold/traded/gave away about 75%
2. Done: sold or opened all but 8 boxes (and hope to open at least a few on christmas)
3. Incomplete: Completed '24 heritage; down to 20 cards needed for '17 PD, 15 for '25 PD
4. Done: new player PC is Mark Lemke and I picked up about half of my target list
5. Done: I have a few stragglers here and there but my binder shelves are looking great

By far my most successful year of hobby goals

1. Don't buy wax!! (I spent $200 at my LCS on Black Friday boxes and have 3 relic cards to show for it ). Spent way more on singles this year and not much at all on wax. I would say goal achieved.

2. Spend less on low end and save for higher end cards I want. Eh yes and no, I had a mid-year sell off of most of my stuff to reallocate some funds to another project. Since I have been back though I would say its been about 50/50 on low end of Reds PC and higher end cards (high end for me is $75+ )

3.Consolidate my wrestling and golf and focus mainly on baseball and 1 basketball PC guy. Got rid of all wrestling and only kept a few Jack Nicklaus cards. Strictly baseball this year and not even much of my basketball PC guy. Goal achieved

4. 1994 Upper Deck Mantle / Griffey Dual auto Not a chance

I didn't really come in with a goal. I guess to downsize a bit which I sort of did. but I feel like this year I got back into buying physical cards to collect and invest. Not just to flip them. Taking out my old cards from my childhood and enjoying them. Not that any of them are worth a ton but still felt like I enjoyed "collecting" more this year which is great because it isn't all about money and has taken me a long time to realize. Also trying to give back more even if it is just base cards to kids. I feel like even with where the hobby is at $ wise I'm still making the best of it!
