Default How come Charles Barkley's RC card is worth more than Hakeem Olajuwon's Rc?

How come Charles Barkley's rookie in the 1986 Fleer set worth more than Hakeem Olajuwon's rookie in the same set? Hakeem Olajuwon was better and had a better career and is considered by most to be top 10 all time. His rookie is just not a little more it's hundreds more, is this because Basketball is just some popularity contest?

Popularity is one thing, Barkley has for the most part been the second most expensive card in the set since release of the first basketball Beckett.

Another factor is that the Barkley card is more condition sensitive than the Hakeem, although similar quantities have been graded, there are about 100 less barkleys in PSA 10 ( about 250 vs. 350 )

I just always wondered why individual talent doesn't mean as much in Basketball as it does in Baseball a lot of great players don't ever get the credit they deserve if they're not popular enough in basketball and Hakeem has to be one the players when you research one of the most impressive individuals to ever play considering his background and what he was able to accomplish with the lack of help during his prime compared to the other greats.

Barkley is wildly underrated for his basketball skill and was immensely popular. I don't think it's a slam dunk at all that Hakeem was outright better than Barkley although I would agree that Hakeem was more accomplished and had a more desirable career.

Barkley is more relevant also due to media duties.

I love Barkley

It’s a slam dunk

Barkley is a much bigger celebrity and a Hall of Famer as well.

I understand the love for Barkley for popularity reasons but let's be real Hakeem was better in the playoffs when it matters most and has the second most PPG as a center all time in the playoffs and most BPG in the playoffs. He's the only player all time to be in the top 20 in the 5 major categories Blocks, Steals, Rebounds and Points and when he retired, he was top 10. Charles Barkley was not even close in Defense and was not even better player when he joined Hakeems Rockets.

We all know this. You don’t need to post it

Your question was already answered

It’s such a slam dunk that it may as well be Shaq dunking on a 5th grader on a 7ft hoop.

Hakeem is probably the greatest defensive big man in history and one of the most unstoppable offensive players ever.

Barkley was very good, underrated even

He’s not even close to Hakeem from a basketball skill perspective

Willie Mays has better career stats than Mantle, but he sells for way less.

I believe Barkley was even a bigger celebrity than Hakeem during their prime years in the 90s.

Some pro athletes transcend the sports they play in.

yeah Barkley had a higher career scoring avg, had higher rebounds per game total than Hakeem despite being much shorter, more assists and better shooting percentages from nearly every area.

Add to that he is a guy people can watch and laugh with for hours each week during the NBA season

There's not a mathematical formula based on stats that determines card prices. People pulling out their wallet to buy is what matters. Chuck is way more relevant and insanely popular these days.

Barkley, Shaq and Bradshaw all have turned into personalities and people forgot how good they were during their playing days.

When was the last time you saw Chuck?

When was the last time you saw Hakeem?

Out of sight, out of mind.

It's crazy how people would just fork over their wallets and bank accounts over popularity instead of Skill.
