Its nice that we've gotten the wins, but we're lucky to be 4-1 and our performances don't suggest we'll have continued success. Last minute fumbles by Sea and LA gifted us wins, and that's not counting Rattler's fumble with 1:04 left or the fact that Arizona had a lead and the ball at the 50 with 2:30 left.

We have the second worst rushing avg in the league, 3.1yds. We're the only team in the league without a rushing TD.
We have a -3 turnover differential, 5th worst in the league. We're one of only three teams without an INT.
Our offense's EPA ranks 15th and and our defense's ranks 13th. I'd guess our ST ranks worse, although Pinero has looked good with FGs.

SOMEONE AGREES WITH ME.

Marino was overrated.

Obviously, the Niners are fortunate to have a 4-1 record, but those numbers and rankings are with a lot of key injuries. If they can get healthy as the season progresses, they should be able to improve their numbers. George Kittle might return next week and he should help the run game.

None of that matters.....only the results.

Those last minute fumbles weren't "gifted".....they were the result of terrific defensive plays!

Bottom line is that we have a stranglehold on the division title now by virtue of being 3-0 in the division with two away wins. Worst case scenario now is probably finishing 12-5, with us having a decent shot at 13-4 or 14-3 if we can win either the upcoming game in Tampa or December's game in Indy.

Agreed.

And NFC North and NFC East play each other this year, and West plays South, who are aren't playing well but for the Bucs. San Fran wins the NFC West, they very well may get a Bye.

Looks like no Kittle for the Bucs game next week, so his return with have to wait for at least a couple more weeks.

Betting odds have us at 9th best chance to win SB, despite being tied for best record. 5th best chance to win the NFC (behind Eagles, Lions, Packers, and Rams). Current over/under is 11.5 wins.

I know this sounds like hyperbole but it is not.

On that last Bucs drive for a TD before the half, that is one of the worst defensive efforts I have ever seen.

The amount of key injuries to this team is insane -- they seem cursed.

The defensive effort and tackling was atrocious (TB got away with an obvious hold on that TD near halftime).
The OLine was brutal.

We’re not winning the SB. Pack it in, tank for a high draft pick next year.

2 wasted years in a row, with one of the most dynamic playmakers in the NFL on your roster...so sad.

even with the softer schedule and Purdy and Kittle close to coming back I don't see how they can even get to 10 wins now

Currently only 12th best SB odds. I don’t dispute the fact that they have a great chance to make the playoffs, maybe win the division. But if we’re not going to win the SB (which we’re not) I’d rather just lose and get a higher draft pick.

Should the title of the thread be changed to Return of the Mac?

As great as he is, I really do believe we still could have competed after the Bosa injury. The Warner one really sucked though. You could see Baker take advantage of that right away on Sunday. If Saleh can somehow manage a top 10 defense the rest of the way, he won't be with us long and will definitely get another HC shot somewhere.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Niners go on a losing streak and fall out of the playoff race. All these injuries to key players has to impact their performance at some point.

Either way, it's another season they won't win a championship.

At some point it becomes too much to overcome.

I think we’re there with the Warner injury.

At least the pressure of expectations is off the Niners - they may surprise. All these injuries are early in the season - there’s a long time to recover for those who are not out for the year.

Quite impressed with how the young D played - especially against Bijan.

A night of sound football was what the Niners needed.

The run game was statistically SO much better for the snaps when Kittle is in the lineup - not shocking. Just need to get more healthy as the season goes on.
