Default LeBron James thread

I’m not a big basketball guy but I’ve started watching and learning.

I am familiar with the hobby from baseball and football.

From what I see at shows MJ, Kobe, Steph and LeBron are the most popular players by far.

I can’t find a dedicated LeBron James thread on here. I’m just wondering if I missed it or if he’s just not collected that much on BO?

He is, but there are a lot of right-wingers here who hate him for being outspoken on politics. I don't like to talk about him here because of it.

That stinks. Just let it go if it makes you that upset. Still a top two player of all time and he should be recognized as such

Top two? TOP TWO!

He’s by far the goat but he comes off as a pansy sometimes which lowers his perceived score. As soon as he retires for good he will achieve his status

Politics?

Haha, that’s the last reason to not be a fan of his.

He’s been around for two generations. He has played at a top level for the duration of those generations. Thats 20 years of people getting to see his high level of play. Ask any younger generation who the greatest basketball player is, and the majority will say LeBron.

Recency bias. If SGA and Jokic continue to play at high levels, they might make young fans reconsider who the best ever is. And then of course there’s Wemby, if he can stay healthy. Jordan will remain as the GOAT in the minds of most fans though, because he’s the Babe Ruth of basketball. LeBron will never be that. No player has had more of an impact on the game of basketball than Jordan. Jordan has an incredible amount of YouTubers still posting videos of his highlights, and he hasn’t played a game in over 22 years. The problem with LeBron is his highlights aren’t as entertaining as Jordan’s or even Curry’s. What iconic moments does he have, other than the block on Iguodala? Jordan has more iconic moments than any player ever that live on in the mind’s of fans everywhere. LeBron’s just a player who played a long time, and showed up on the big stage quite often. He won some chips but lost more often than he won, and of course he accumulated a lot of stats. The problem is most fans don’t care about stats.

The GOAT debate is mostly fueled by ESPN and Klutch sport personalities. Once he retires, you won’t hear it as much. This may come sooner rather than later. If and when he returns to the Lakers from his fake injury, he joins a team where he’s clearly not the best player. And the way Reaves is playing, LeBron might not even be the second best player on his own team. Will his ego be able to handle that?

Awesome take.

A conspiracy theory floating around is that the Lefake injury may also be a suspension coverup as his attorneys try to defend investigations and allegations of his involvement in the NBA’s gambling ring.

What happens to the chosen one’s legacy if he is associated with the biggest scandal in NBA history? Will he have an Ippei to bail him out?

A lot can still happen to tarnish his name.

You are both right -- Curry is the most popular player of younger people, but Lebron is also the most popular choice for GOAT from those same people; most of them didn't watch MJ play and it's popular for younger people to dismiss his accomplishments due to the perceived superior level of play of the modern era.

I find it difficult to believe our younger friends really believe Bron is a goat.

They saw Leflop, Lechoke and Ledefer on a daily basis, what has happened to the educational system of our youth? Are their minds so underdeveloped that they believe just because someone has the most points in nba history it makes them a goat? Someone who loses more than he wins in the finals is a goat? What ever happened to critical thinking and digging deeper than the surface in our educational system?

I pray for the future of our country if that’s what they truly believe. The children of millennials - the end of civilization as we know it.

Probably true, but as someone who watched both MJ and LeBron their entire careers it's clearly MJ by how much he dominated his era.

My take on it because they played in different eras is that MJ was the illegal defense GOAT and LeBron is the zone defense GOAT.

What exactly makes you think that?

Bron is disliked by many.

Hobby wise MJ and Kobe are in a separate tier way above everyone else. LeBron and Curry are in the 2nd tier with some others. Don’t talk too positively about him here as he is the most hated basketball player (sharing the hate spotlight with Durant and Tatum) in this forum. There are couple guys here that have tried to praise him, but they get demolished by rest of the BO community and have been quiet for years now (don’t join these couple guys or you will not enjoy being here)

Couldn't figure out what Lebron was doing last night during the breaks. He looks completely healthy and like he's just hanging out instead of playing

lol what? LeBron surpassed Kobe in the hobby 15 years ago. I pc’ed mj, LeBron, and Kobe so familiar with the market. Anyone that has been collecting LeBron since he was drafted would have to laugh that he’s second tier. Lebrons stuff have been some of the highest priced stuff right out the gate.

That’s a very misleading statement.

LeBron’s rookie year just happened to come out at the same time that the ultra high end products debuted and he just happened to be an upper deck autograph exclusive.

Had Kobe had a first year edition exquisite rookie auto patch/99, it would have been one of the most iconic cards in the hobby ever. Also, if Kobe had chrome gold refractor rookies, they would have sold as much as Bron stuff during the pandemic.

You are comparing apples to Leoranges.

Kobe is much more respected in the hobby than Bron.
