Looks like Getty is also the source of these images.

This has to be the image for West.

With a the use of action shots for the set, it will be fun to see other players featured in the background.

Exclusively ... there might be some asterisks from the dead ball era .. I started to source the images for your spreadsheet but it was way too time consuming.

I appreciate you making the effort.

I’ll add it to the list of information I want to include.

I just realized the back of the card has 000 as the card number. I'll update the original post when it's fixed.

Love the art but wasn’t expecting Brunson so soon this season.

These are the first basketball cards I've purchased since the 2005-06 season, so I'm wholly unfamiliar with the hobby darlings when it comes to basketball.

Who do you think we can expect this season? Do you expect Topps to repeat any team(s) before all 30 are represented?

With two teams represented in the very young set, it got me thinking, who would I like to see if I had to choose one player from every team, past or present? My list will be heavy on players from the 90s, and this doesn't necessarily represent the best players from their respective franchises, just some of my favorites.
  • Atlanta Hawks - Dominique Wilkins
  • Boston Celtics - Larry Bird
  • Brooklyn Nets - Derrick Coleman (New Jersey Nets)
  • Charlotte Hornets - Larry Johnson
  • Chicago Bulls - Scottie Pippen (assuming we don't see Jordan for some time due to his exclusive agreement with Upper Deck)
  • Cleveland Cavaliers - Ron Harper
  • Dallas Mavericks - Jason Kidd
  • Denver Nuggets - Dikembe Mutombo
  • Detroit Pistons - Grant Hill
  • Golden State Warriors - Tim Hardaway
  • Houston Rockets - Hakeem Olajuwon
  • Indiana Pacers - Reggie Miller
  • Los Angeles Clippers - Bob McAdoo (Buffalo Braves)
  • Los Angeles Lakers - Magic Johnson
  • Memphis Grizzlies - Shareef Abdur-Rahim (Vancouver Grizzlies)
  • Miami Heat - Alonzo Mourning
  • Milwaukee Bucks - Ray Allen
  • Minnesota Timberwolves - Kevin Garnett
  • New Orleans Pelicans - Chris Paul
  • New York Knicks - Patrick Ewing
  • Oklahoma City Thunder - Shawn Kemp (Seattle SuperSonics)
  • Orlando Magic - Penny Hardaway
  • Philadelphia 76ers - Allen Iverson
  • Phoenix Suns - Charles Barkley
  • Portland Trail Blazers - Clyde Drexler
  • Sacramento Kings - Mitch Richmond
  • San Antonio Spurs - David Robinson
  • Toronto Raptors - Vince Carter
  • Utah Jazz - John Stockton
  • Washington Wizards - Antawn Jamison

Curry and Wemby plus Flagg seems like leading guesses.

Lakers and Celtics are likely repeats

The upside, that would leave us with at least 31 more cards for the season. I'm hoping they give us veterans for the teams they repeat each season.

Lets face it, 1 a week is just not gonna cut it. Hopefully another excellent artist joins the ranks soon.
But I will add that with such a slow drip, I'm more inclined to collect the whole set.

Looking at all the oldtimers listed...one thing I don't care for is the fact there is no team logo on the card. I'd love to see some of the old logos...that adds some charm to the baseball set.

The gap in releases, if it stays, may cause some to forget or just lose interest.

I plan on collecting the entire set. I agree that one card per week makes that easier, but it also means a “miss” can have an outsized effect on future weeks. It makes player selection that much more important when you don’t have two cards to look forward to. Fortunately, Angel’s artwork is phenomenal. I’m simply amazed at the detail he accomplishes on a 5x7 canvas.

Regarding the lack of logos, that hasn’t crossed my mind until you mentioned it. Definitely a bummer, as there are some fantastic past logos. Doesn’t help that the NBA’s current design trend is bland and uninspired.

Agree. They should definitely do at least 3-5 of the hot rookies.

Flagg
Edgecomb
Harper
Bailey
Knueppel

Plus maybe make room for another 1-2 if someone gets hot later on in the season.

So that leaves about 33-35 other cards. With the amount of current and retired stars, it's going to take a lot. And part of the charm of the set is having some semistars as well. They should have started with 2-3 per week and then slowed it down after Year 1.

To date, rookies are a third of the MLB set (33.26%, 293/881).

I think it's safe to assume rookies will not have as prominent a role in the NBA set. Even if the top 5 receive a card each season, and a couple more that take off, that's still only 20% (7/35) or less.

I'm curious how superstars/stars will be handled each season, as the NBA has far more player movement compared to MLB.
