Yeah, people will buy one lotto ticket a week, it’s not like those who go into 30 breaks at $60 a pop every single month.

Technically, you could break down the checklist into 2000 spots and charge everyone a dollar, then even the homeless could participate. Thats what fanatics would love, get everyone hooked at all price points.

Is there no end to the madness?

We'll see pick your Team topps chrome pack break. $5 a spot. Will sell like hotcakes. Surprise breakers haven't done it yet.

I wonder if this will sell out as quickly on the actual release date or if the average Joe (me) will have a legit shot at a jumbo for a personal break (x-mas present to myself!)

As a side-reference, a couple in the town I live in, just recently hit their SECOND....top-tier prize, in NJ's scratch off lottery, totaling $4,000,000! Two,...completely different games/scratchers, mind you! $1M in April, and then $3M a couple of weeks ago. Some number-crunchers figured the odds for this to happen to be ~ 1:2,000,000,000,000 (for those not wanting to math-the-digits; that's....TRILLION)!

Perhaps they'd be first in line to give the breaker format of..."Five dollars a pack",...a whack...?!!?

People paying $60 for a random team jumbo spot don’t understand that they’ve just reduced their odds of hitting a card by 30-fold by buying into a “cheap” spot. You and 30 other compulsive degenerates are paying $1800 for the jumbo box.

Sure, try it once or twice on a whim, enjoy. People buy lotto tickets all the time.

Don’t be a compulsive degenerate and think you are getting a “deal” over and over and over again. You are simply contributing to the behavioral decay of our hobby and putting more money into Rubin’s bank account.
That's the part I don't get.

If the typical BO member doesn’t get it, then that’s the point someone crosses the compulsive degenerate line.

We all understand the thrill of the gamble, but when it gets to INSANE buy-in costs, the line must be drawn.

Even the box flipper bois know when NOT to open a box and when to simply sell it.

Singles have always been the way to go to grow your collection.

The gambling/excitement aspect of the hobby has always been there. The crazy thing is, it feels like more people are buying into breaks and gambling even as the odds favor the "house" more and more.

I guess breaking just gives people the feeling that they're spending less (even though they're not if you extrapolate it as you did).

For some, it isn't about growing their collection, it's about getting that rush of hitting big and flipping for massive profits.

They don't collect, they just want to turn their $60 into $6,000. No different than a slot machine at your local casino.

But as you said, the odds are always in the houses favor.

For me, personally, I stopped collecting years back due to the prices. I could afford to buy a $600 case and get $400 back and eat the 200. I just refuse to spend 1k on a case and eat the $600.

That'a the big thing...most people who enter breaks don't want to hit a monster for their PC..they want hit a monster to flip it

More like, I just refuse to spend $4000 on a case and eat the $3600, to be more precise

Some breakers out there already do this with rarish pokemon packs and people still buy into them 9 spots for one pack of 9 cards and what is really stupid is most of the entire value of those old Pokemon packs is the fact that it is a rare sealed pack, once it is opened the expected value of the cards inside is very little unless you hit a huge hit.

If you're getting 60% back after ripping, that's pretty good. It's probably closer to 10-20% these days. Worse if you're ripping high end, which makes the ppl participating in those breaks even crazier.

The odds on making your money back ripping then flipping is so far worse than playing blackjack/roulette or almost any other casino game. The house usually has like a 2-20% edge. You're not getting anywhere close to that ripping wax.

Anybody without Topps beer goggles on knew how it would go. As soon as I started checking out the baseball threads or baseball vids a while back and saw the amount of complaints and bellyaching about them as a company you could tell they were just as bad if not worse than Poopini.
