Yes, but not for the reasons you think....it's because most of the HOFers whose autos I want have died in the past ten years: Mays....Aaron....Banks....F.Robinson....Gibson....Henderson....Seaver....Gwynn....etc.

Not because of anyone’s signatures, but think about how many autos these guys are signing and will continue to sign for 40 years.

Im shocked how many people are defending the signatures of athletes who scribble something in half a second

There should be a stipulation in the contract with Topps that the athlete will spend a few sessions with a handwriting expert to spruce up their signature before they sign

That said, these guys sign more cards than ever before, and that's not even getting into the thousands of stickers they have to sign as well. It's not surprising they start phoning it in at some point.

Yeah, these "autographs" - are they really autographs ? Maybe I'm in the minority, but I'm not ponying up for a squiggle. And does PSA honestly authenticate these things as real, or do they just go, "aw heck, looks sorta like the other squiggles we grade so it must be real." ?

After your Lou Whitaker for HOF take I can't tell if you're just trolling me or what.

This looks like he wrote out Darryl, then scribbled it out.

On this one it appears he wrote out J P, then went full kindergartner on it as well.

Autograph "authentication" is an even bigger scam than grading.....last show I went to I took three IP autos to CSA to get authenticated since I was thinking about selling them.....they only passed one of them

I did that so you wouldn't have to refer back to page one to see that I'm right. You're welcome.

Same here. A squiggle on a sticker in most cases now. A squiggle on a sticker with air bubbles under it in many cases…and a squiggle on a crooked sticker with air bubbles under it all too often! And finally…the cake taker…an NBA mom squiggle on a crooked sticker with air bubbles under it. Lol

You have to understand though when Topps is making you sign 250 sheets of your name 24 times 3-4x a year you would sign a squiggle as well.

Then there are the athletes who probably don’t know how to write their name so they just write their initials. I remember David Ortiz on year complaining about signing like 10k stickers for Topps one year

No one’s making them sign anything. They’re literally being paid for it.

Can’t believe the OG of bad modern autographs Wil Myers has not entered the chat.

Modern cards suck, between the parallels and the uncertainty that the cards even exist- it's become too difficult to enjoy the hobby.

I still can't get a straight answer from topps if two cards on the checklist were ever made, and I started a "parallel set" to complete it.

Won't anybody think of the well-being of players' wrists and hands?

These card companies are awful. Topps customer service once told me the market determines the checklist when I inquired about the existence of a couple cards on their checklists that never surfaced.

I'm starting to move to custom cards aftermarket signed in BGS or PSA Auto Authentication cases and original RC's signed afterwards.

Incredibly beautiful options, a nice auto, sealed display case for fractions of the cost of the unBEARABULL shilling of the main hobby.

As a kid I always wanted the Frank Thomas LEAF RC like every other kid and now I have one signed. Never once as a kid did I consider that to be possible yet here we are.

I give credit to Curry. He signs a lot but his sig has stayed pretty much the same his entire career (seems like he's enlarged the "C" in his sig in recent years). Also has a nice looking sig as well, not some lame one you see many of the younger guys sign with these days.

Though most would call that a "scribble" and want him to write out the full Stephen Curry

Yup. That seems right in line with ol’ Jairo’s John Hancock.

I thought this was going to be a "they sign so much and will always sign much more in the future" thread
