Just sold my 2018 Topps S2 #700 Black #/67 PSA 9 to a fellow BO member yesterday.

Although I really liked the card, the sale allows me to pursue other PC cards of greater interest (Curry). I’ll probably max out my annual Roth IRA contribution too haha.

I’m back to 1 Ohtani PC card (the orange relic auto I pack-pulled from 2023 Topps WBC, hard to move that one despite it being a sticker auto).

I started collecting Ohtani during his 2021 MVP season. Current prices have sky rocketed lately. Hindsight being 20/20 I wish I had bought high end back in 2021 like Trueblue told everyone to do. But it appears no matter what kind of collector you are (low, medium, high) your Ohtani RC cards have greatly appreciated.

My goal is to find under valued/under appreciated 2018 medium end RC (thats the lane I try to stay in), but for the first time I am having trouble this off season.

Anyone just holding their Ohtani collection to enjoy and not planning on buying any more (or selling)?

This is where I am, had a goal, I feel like I met it and now just enjoying the cool collection. I still look but I don't have the need to buy anything at the moment. That chrome SSSP running out of the tunnel is nice though.

There's been some interesting volume for 2018 PSA 8s and 9s the past few days on eBay (especially ones listed under PSA store). Perhaps some speculation that even the high pop Ohtani low end graded base will start to trend upwards next year...or repackers. Ohtani slabbed 2018s very liquid at current comps and rising.

There are quite a few autos that are pretty similar though, especially the #TASO series. Here's 3 examples....would you basically value these all about the same?


Also, which would be valued more? A 1/1 PSA 9 of a particular auto, or a PSA 10/10 of the same card but /3 version? I've seen some examples where the values are more or less the same....1/1 perhaps a few k more.

Anyone have access to historical price data? Would be interesting to know the price increase % 2018 RC cards (high end RC autos vs high end SSP and low numbered cards vs mid end SP's and numbered cards vs low end base RC and inserts).

Clearly it has all gone way up since his 2021 MVP season!

So his Cardladder index score was 3,426 on 1 Jan 2022; currently his CL score is 22,409. So......yeah, a little bit of an increase. Lol

Think of it like a stock market index for a player. Ohtani's CL score is up over 600% since Jan 1 2022. Doesn't mean all his cards are up 600%, but his market as a whole is up that much. I'm sure you can find plenty of cards (especially rarer rookies) that are up much more than 600%, while some base rookies may only be up less than 200% during the same timespan.
