The Diaz for Opener idea was a joke. Maybe. Once you get locked into a serious Free Agent collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

No kidding. I would’ve guessed $15-$18 million a year. But maybe the higher AAV is was their way of avoiding a longer contract.

Seems like a low-risk gamble for a guy with a decent chance of turning a corner in a positive direction, in which case they have a prime trade chip for the deadline.
