Default Upper Deck announce Rookie Debut jersey cards to be included in 25-26 Extended

This is definitely due to the success of MLB Debut patches from Topps. Also propping up the value of Extended Series.

Nice, this'll be cool, they got the whole jersey instead of just a patch.

They might, between periods they could (in theory) switch jerseys. It's game worn, but doesn't mean "entire game" worn.

Extended can use all the help it can get.

They probably wear three in their debut game, one for each period. I would imagine the player gets to keep the first period one and others go to the NHL or whatever.

I know when UD gets jerseys from the teams for vet players to make cards a lot of the time they will get the player to wear three jerseys in a game so most of our patch cards of current players were worn for one period.

A debut patch would have been nice like other sports, but hey, having the whole jersey is a big step up too.

Nice job here by UD.

Correct. If you watch the promo video on YouTube, you see notes from the equipment manager on the tags saying things like "third period" so I suspect they each wore several over the course of the game.

Are the whole jerseys available? As I read it, they are simply confirming the game-used portion of it. They still intend to cut them up from my understanding.

And check out this statement -- what the hell is this guy talking about?

Quote:
“The cards aren’t going to be common, but we wanted the average collector to be able to get their favorite rookie or their favorite player,” Masherah said. “But they will be uncommon enough to where some of these will be extremely high-dollar type cards, especially the autographs.”

Yes they’re cutting them up. I think he’s just comparing Topps only getting access to the small debut patch that’s removed from the jersey after the game to make one card, to UD getting a whole jersey to make many cards.

Can’t wait to see LCS owners/breakers hitting all the jerseys cause they weighed boxes

That's a fair point, and hockey jerseys make for good patch cards. Shoulder patches and a chest logo.

Billy Celio said on the Gongshow that the patch material from these jerseys would be used in other products down the line. Rookie debut game worn Cup RPA’s?? No way they wouldn’t capitalize on this and not use debut patches in the Cup RPA’s. That would be huge for the Schaefer /99 especially.

Premier Megas stand out as another area they could be using them for. Just really hope they note that its the debut game materials on the back of the cards.

EDIT: Wonder if we'll get a rookie debut shield card somewhere - Cup? Ultimate? They have it, wonder where they put it.

To do some derivative speculation: patches would go to Ultimate and Cup gets the shield, nameplate letters, and fight strap - both under the Exquisite branding.

My speculation: Shield goes to Ultimate because that’s THE shield product. Patches go to Cup RPA’s, maybe Limited Logos too. The leftover debut stuff may go into other new cards they come up with specifically for the debut jersey that we haven’t seen yet similar to how they’re using the set tag and jersey material for the new extended chases.

They’ll still get other jerseys throughout the season like they normally would and that’s what will go to things like Mega Patches, like usual.

Interesting interview -- did he say the pricing for this one would be between Premier and The Cup or was that Splendor? He's sometimes difficult to follow when rattling off info.

I don’t remember. He did confirm Splendor would be back for a standalone release with a lot of retired/legend content though so that’s interesting. I imagine that’s the one that falls in the high end pricing in that range.

Wish you the classic “back in the game” good luck lol feels cards have a way of giving you a big hit if you haven’t ripped a sport or brand in awhile, to draw you back in lol
