They don't care about the long term.....their goal is to get bought out by private equity within the next 3-5 years.

Fair point. But they already pulled the pin on the grenade and I'd have a hard time believing they have that much time.

To be honest, it seems Fanatics cant see the forrest thru the trees. Do they not realize the long term viability of this trajectory is not sustainable. Do they have no awareness of the junk wax era? Man, if I was a breaker or card shop getting strong armed by Fanatics just so I can get some allocation and see the path they are traveling, Id jump off that ship pretty quickly.
If they have visions of an IPO then they are just worried about how the numbers look leading up to that. The long term will be investors problems after that.

I watched a random box opening last night, and the fella pulled a very low number Dowman auto. The dude had no idea who he was and spent about 5 seconds on the card.

Now, this opened my eyes. I don’t believe Dowman is anything that special, bit like that Rio fella at Liverpool. English hype. Nice players but.. yeah. However this is supposed to be the pinnacle pull in the set this year.

Why are people paying this kind of money for this garbage, if they have no idea who anyone is?

Well watching the greek community growing rapidly these days I have to say 90% of the people are gamblers with self-exclusion in gambling websites. Its just a "more innocent" way to gamble in their heads. Guess this is happening everywhere.

This is completely backwards, they are already funded by PE for several years now by large firms including Silver Lake [I'm indirectly invested in Fanatics via this route].

The goal is to IPO. Not stay private. There's very, very little upside to staying private and a ton of upside to going public, esp as AI isn't going to replace the hobby in the next 10 years.

PE firms are going to be stuck with their software buyouts for a long time, I'd wager. This is the stuff they need to take public.

Either way, their focus is the same...i.e. boosting short-term profits at the expense of strategic long-term thinking.

In a surprisingly un-Fanatics-like move, their London (and maybe other Fanatics store?) is taking a page from Bandai's book and has announced that upon purchasing a LogoFractor EPL box, they will be removing the shrink wrap for the "health" of the hobby and getting the products into the "hands of true collectors". Per their IG story.

Nothing but a shallow PR move.
