Default Card Storage/Display

I have been holding off getting my collection sorted and I am not quite sure how I want to go about things. Can all you fabulous collectors share some pictures of how you have your collections sorted and also stored?

Currently I have most my collection in 2k-5k boxes. I have rookies sorted by team and then I also keep a handful of stars sorted by players and then miscellaneous refractors/parallels sorted by team. This is for both baseball and football.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures to get some ideas!

There was a thread about this I believe a couple years ago I remember following that had some good examples.

I've always kept the majority of my collection in the 3200ct boxes sorted by year/set/number. I've found that's great for organization purposes, but terrible for actually enjoying your collection. I found that I amassed a very large collection that I virtually never looked at. For the most part I stopped building any new sets in 2023 & slowly started downsizing everything I have. I'm in the process of (once again slowly) moving nearly everything I still have & plan to keep in the collection from boxes over to binders. At some point this year I'll add shelving to keep all the binders on. For now everything is stacked in the spare room on large storage shelves, with the binders in 20 gallon totes.

The answer is always Binders.

+1 binders. I'm switching from standard d-ring to unikeep case binders for my "final" storage update. They had a good deal on amazon for like $5 per, not sure if that's still going on.

Right now I have my old d-ring binders on an open bookshelf 3 shelves high. I'm planning to build a low shelf to run along the back of my office to replace it.

Here is what I will end up having:
  • Pro debut / heritage minors sets = one 1" binder per, total of 32 binders + one each year
  • Player collections = one 1.5" binder (all retired, so won't be adding more)
  • SF giants heritage chrome refractors = one 1.5" binder (I quit adding when they stopped doing numbered refractors, so won't be adding more)
  • SF giants heritage variations = one 1" binder (add 1-3 cards per year, so will eventually move to 1.5" binder)
  • SF giants gold parallels /20xx = one 1.5" binder (add 1 page each year, so will eventually have to add one or find a 2" case binder)
  • 90s die-cut and serial numbered inserts = one 1.5" binder (no longer adding to this)
  • Raw vintage stars = one 1.5" binder (I have about 50 more card I'm targeting, but I only add a dozen or so a year and they'll all fit in the existing binder)
  • 3 basketball sets - 92-93 topps archives, 92-93 upper deck, 94-95 skybox emotion = two 1" binders and one old 2.5" d-ring for upper deck

The remainder of my collection is in the plastic BCW 3200 count boxes: traders, cards for sale on eBay, in progress sets, and some extremely random cards I just can't seem to get rid of (garbage pail kids, 80s football stars, nintendo power, sports illustrated for kids, etc.)
