Correct, but some what we call base parallels in Pokemon with out sell base parallels of sports in a 10, even for lesser characters. Akso you have to have a 10 in sports to make money.

At least with Pokemon(buying at MSRP) you are only losing $50 on an ETB where in sports you are losing over $100 on a hobby box in baseball, and what $300 in football/basketball?

My 7 year old son is high into Pokemon cards now, just when it's nearly impossible to find them so yay.

But he was excited to open 2 X/Y tins yesterday, we didn't pull anything really exceptional but he likes the Charizard cards at least. Hopefully I can find more at MSRP for him to open.

Every day I think prices will begin to cool off. Every day I’m wrong. Still a lot of opportunity out there though. Not surprising, but people are only thinking about tomorrow instead of what things look like 5-10-20 years from now. Look at the pop and prices on mid-grade Mantles and compare it to the best characters from 1999-2017 Pokemon.

64 Mantle PSA 6 - pop 1788 (1752 higher), $750-1000
07 Mysterious Treasures Pikachu PSA 10 - Pop 21, $1400

Not many Mysterious Treasures boxes left to be open. And not many commons sitting around in mint condition just waiting to be graded.

yeah it's tough to predict the future right now. especially after the covid frenzy that ended up dumping.

on one hand you know there is an unprecedented number of new ppl in the hobby and on the other hand you remember the random low pop psa 10s that pumped and people got rekt holding the bag when things inevitably came down.

Just got 3 cases of Ascended Heroes deluxe pin collection boxes. Originally planned to sit on them but wondering if the hit rates are decent.

Where did you snag those from? I'd sit on them, I've had terrible luck ripping them. I think the set will do well long term.

The decline will come. But the people who will feel it are the ones buying the pop 25k, available every day, $1000 slabs. In general, I’m betting on sustained long term demand of the most popular characters with pops in the single to double digits.

I just grabbed another PSA 9 Supreme Victors Pikachu reverse. Pop 11, none higher. A little under $2k. Less than Ascended Heroes SIR. LOL. If Pokemon is still popular 25 years from now, what’s the value?

The old Japanese vending series has caught my eye. I like that it is rare and not a ton of people really know about it. Also, the prices have been going up on the sets. Some if it is a little pricy and out of my range. But I jumped in with some smaller cards. Found them in really nice condition for a heck of a price too. I will send these off to get graded.

I bought them via MVP (I've had an account with them since 2020 or something).

They offered cases, for my tier, at ~$230 per. I purchased 3 of the 4 that I was allotted (I would've purchased all 4 but there was a $800 CC limit and I didn't want to send via Zelle).

A lot of people are putting heavy stock into sealed stuff rising, this latest Charizard rising to over $1k raw.

Hard to see sustaining prices like that really to me. I have some people who were telling me they think Prismatic ETB's have a legit shot at being $1k within 5 years.

I would not invest in any general release after 2017. The last decade faces the greatest risk because it has the greatest supply. This stuff is available at all times.

It'll be higher than you think. In 25 years most of the kids of today are going to be looking for the sets they remembered from their childhood. They'll be looking for a Mega Charizard 125 or Umbreon 161. The ultra niche stuff will have its market, but the masses will be looking for the popular mainstream items.

That is incredible. Skyridge is the best set of all time imo and I have been slowly acquiring the reverse holos that I can afford.

Most of my graded cards are ones i pulled from retail priced packs and then graded or traded for or got from like 25 to 50 dollar mystery packs.... so i dont have a ton in to them but i do mostly have more recent stuff just because its when I started buying packs more frequently...

So im kind of curious how far do you think modern stuff will fall?

Like say the charizard 101 from evolutions in a psa 10 what do you think that will be value wise in say 10 years?

Because since I started collecting more recently what ive been trying to do is get cards that I think either character or art wise I can see new collectors down the road wanting to get to fill in their collections with some older stuff of...

Im a small collector and im fairly new to collecting pokemon so my thought process could be completely wrong.. I was thinking that since pokemon cards are not serial numbered it would put more emphasis on the characters and art and help even high pop count cards maintain good value...

That Charizard is $750. It’s a pop 13k. It’s not that appealing of a card. I could see it take a 50% haircut in a couple of weeks. But it’s also a cheap Charizard. So who knows.

For me, it’s easier looking at cards I think are underpriced rather than overpriced. I am banking on set builders and character collectors looking to fill voids years to decades down the road. Same as it has ever been in the hobby.

I am actually starting to get priced out of many cards. I am trying to complete WOTC era sets and like KhalDrogo I think vintage holds the best value or is at least going to be steady rising for years to come. I feel like I am scrambling to buy before they go up more. Maybe I need to be patient and just wait until non anniversary years. I still find the occasional deal.

You must get invited to all the parties. I came to check out neat Pokemon cards, and instead, I get to read you pissing on the parade.
