For context, you can find (mens) clubs in Division 7 and 8 in England that get larger attendances than Spain and France - two of the elite leagues. NWSL remains the most popular.. around 10,000 average, but also down - 5% on previous year. This average is also boosted by free tickets to young girls / community outreach / schools. Growth isn't linear. The WSL and NWSL have experienced a lot of growth and have gotten a lot of exposure over the past 5 years, but there is an ebb and flow. Plus players change teams and leagues a lot, affecting demand for some players. Plus it's been a down year for a lot of star players--especially in the NWSL, where several star players took the year off to have a baby (Soph, Mal); or were hurt a lot (Trin). There will be better years for the league.
The market for Woso cards is really shallow, i.e., even very rare cards of living legends like Marta and Christine Sinclair, for example, are very affordable. But the men's futbol/soccer market is pretty shallow too--cards are mostly pretty cheap for all except about 5 or 6 guys. I don't mind. I have a lot of great cards I wouldn't have been able to get if the market were more overrun by profiteers. I think Woso card values will grow in the long run, especially for rare cards of key players in notable sets. In the meantime, enjoy collecting great cards! |
