I feel like everything Topps has put out so far is designed for people that are dropping acid.

The Finest Freshmen look pretty nice to me. Everything else looks like it could cause a seizure. I'm intrigued by the Finest Greats set - maybe if there is a more muted parallel version, I'll go after some of them.

Not my thing, never was, but if this is what I must endure for game used mid/high end with on card autos... let's gooo!

Agreed. I don't understand what they're going for. The color schemes are ridiculous.

Preach.

This is my overriding takeaway. It's never all going to be what I want at once: price, availability, design, ROI, player selection.

But... so far (not just Finest) - on-card autos, game worn patches, Tecmo cards. I like the direction overall.

If they bring back Topps Total, I will be the happiest man ever.

This is where I worry about Topps - so many designs that are just vibrant and bold and not all that appealing

Reusing the MLB design.

The rest are generic-looking -- the Temu version of Finest, basically.

The designs are based on early 90s graphic design:

Quote:
The first half of the 90s saw an evolution of some of the design styles that had been popular during the previous decade—the bold and brash 1980s.

Ultra-bright color palettes, energetic geometric patterns, and jaunty comic book type was the backdrop to youth advertising and MTV, with shows like Saved by the Bell and Beverly Hills, 90210 using this aesthetic in credits, clothing, and set design.

Attention-grabbing and, in some cases, headache-inducing, early 90s design was really an exaggerated form of the New Wave styles, as well the distinctive aesthetic created by the Memphis Group in the 1980s.

Why not use the field as the background?

NBA Finest had the fantastic RC class to carry this product......does the NFL? Probably not but it still may do really well......maybe the next Tesla/meme stock

Seems like a terrible choice considering there have been great years of topps finest designs compared to this cotton candy looking alien slop.

None of the Topps designs I've seen have impressed me. Maybe it's different in hand, but even the "crystallized" looks pretty bad. I'm not an interior designer here (Sopranos reference) but the colors all seem to clash super hard. It's gross looking for most of the stuff I've seen. It's just...so bad.

Rookie. We see that all the time. Haven't you ever wondered what it would look like if they in their uniform walking on the moon? Just kidding, I couldn't agree with you more!!

I have always said this forum is more discerning than collectors not on here but does anyone even find this set appealing?

Breakers and gamblers will.....they find anything and everything appealing.

And they're the target audience for 90% of the products Fanatics releases.

Collectors are an afterthought....we're too discerning when it comes to price/value calculations.

I've seen Finest designs for baseball for the last 6-8 years and they are drastically different than what I remember Finest NFL being in 2009-2015 (the span when I collected), which were honestly closer to techy/industrial Prizm-like designs with etching, embossing, etc.

Modern Topps Finest is just one smooth multi-color acid trip.

Well....that describes most products these days!

The problem is that while Finest was unique and cool when it first came out 30+ years ago, now there are tons of products that look just like it.

They need the xtra colour now so when El CheetoChin does the pack opening he can slide the cards sideways and announce “ I think we got a tortoise skin!

I've lost 3 EQL in a row now. Probably no chance I win this one? I just need to come to terms w/ it I suppose - I was shut out of TC NFL, likely this as well? It's ugly anyway.
