I'm getting rid of most of my stuff and taking a break from the hobby. People with really deep pockets end up with all the 1/1's and logomans. And then when you're after a set you have reluctant people who don't want to help you out. Funny thing is those are the same people that want all the help building their own sets time and time again. Isn't that some BS. It's not fun when all the rare Exquisite cards are controlled by two or three people who will never sell.

the card was not "live" as you say..because you pulled a damn REDEMPTION FOR IT!! yes..the cards might have been ready to send out once they were redeemed, but that still usually takes a few weeks at best. The fact is, you still SOLD a card you didnt have in hand. If your not smart enough to grasp how stupid that is...then "id hate you be you"

Sounds like a lot of people are in this HOBBY for the wrong reasons.

But cant realize the difference between the situation your describing, and the one he was in. Yes..im fully aware of "pre-sells" for products that arent out yet. Im not a moron. What he did is nothing like what you did with Topps Series 1. Especially if your talking about the "Diamond Codes" promotion... In that promotion, your selling 'redemption cards"...even if you presell base sets, complete sets etc thats still totally different. The product was already out, seeing as how he "pulled" a redemption...then he redeemed the card...and instead of waiting to receive it to sell it, he sold it without having it in hand. If you cant see the difference..again..just wow |

Add me to that list too. I got into collecting to make some friends and pick up some cards of players I really enjoyed watching. I can't believe that re-sellers or "flippers" have now outnumbered collectors. It's a hobby, not a profession. I too am taking a break from this, at least for the summer.

![]() just putting the story out there in context with the thread champ. i'm not getting emotional about it at all - the thing is i already know i am stupid. sad that there are people a little bit worse off than me, hiding behind a keyboard they mistaken for an ivory tower Last edited by crackberry; 06-17-2012 at 03:21 AM. |

Alternatively, this is my view of why collecting basketball cards is such a great hobby: - The trustworthy collectors outweigh the scumbags by about one thousand to one. - The incredible generosity of some members who help out other collectors. - The fact that I can regularly grab a real bargain (on eBay, COMC or various message boards). - The fact that I can interact with my buyers and sellers via blowoutcards message board and other forums, meanwhile avoiding having to pay eBay fees. - The incredible reliability of the postal service (I've bought and sold thousands of cards and never had a problem). - The fact I can buy cards from around the world due to the benefits of the internet.

![]() my friend said he felt better sending me money to secure the card. reiterate - we were both pretty confident we'd get the card - it wasn't a matter of the player signing the card or the card being made, since it was live |

why are you maiking a big deal about it. Apparently the buyer was aware of him not having it yet. If it is ok with the seller and buyer then it is none of your business. He apparently got the money spent it and then when the company didn't come through, refunded the buyer his money. It's not like he was ripping off someone. He got $$ for a card he didnt actually "have" to sell...then blew the $$...then goes and blames the company for not having good enough QC to catch the employees "stealing" said card. I mean apparrantly it was a "friend"..but why does that matter? Shady selling practices are still shady selling practices. Quote:
![]() like it was the companies fault he sold a card he didnt have, blew the $$, and now had to sell some of his cards to refund the buyer. |
