lebron freeloaded his way to a ring... he will never be mentioned in the same breath as Jordan who earned his and stuck with his team like a real man thru the good and the bad....
I think lebron quit his way out of cleveland. He worked hard for a ring this year. The fact that it took him 9 years and his 2nd team to win one already in my opinion takes him out of contention with being considered the best.

1. Jordan
2. Magic
3. Russell
4. Wilt
5. Kareem
6. Kobe
7. Duncan
8. Bird
9. Shaq
10. Olajuwon
11. David Robinson
12. Erving
13. Robertson
14. Isiah
15. Pippen
25. Lebron

I would say:

8. Duncan
9. SHAQ
10. Hakeem
11. Big O
12. Jerry West
13. Isiah
14. Lebron
15. Moses Malone

No top 10 list is complete without Elgin Baylor. If he's not in it, me personally, I can't take that list seriously...

For those of you kicking yourself for not buying more LeBron cards ten years ago, don't feel bad. It wasn't obvious or pre-destined as shown in this thread.

Appreciate the greatness that we have witnessed.

What are you talking about? Most of the replies in this thread said he was Top 10 and that was NINE YEARS AGO. It was obvious and everyone knew it.

Except that now he's one of the 3 or so names in the GOAT discussion, and some fans/collectors are most seriously interested in (or can only afford to collect) GOATs and not just top-tens.

What if it's more like 20-year-period starting lineups:

1960-1980:

Kareem
Elgin
Dr J
Jerry
Oscar

1980-2000:

Hakeem
Larry
Karl
MJ
MJ

2000-2020:

Shaq
Bron
Tim
Kobe
Chris P

Wow, I'm not the biggest Lebron fan but this thread has me shocked. Is a lot of this hate about his recent flopping activity? Or maybe that isn't so recent and he's been doing it for a long time.

It probably has more to do with the following:

1. He's a douche that give uneducated takes on politics.

2. A lot of people are absolutely sick and tired of him being compared to Jordan.

2000-2020
Shaq
Kevin Durant
LeBron
Kobe
Curry

This lineup beats the aforementioned 2000-2020 lineups in terms of winning basketball.

Anyone that spouts off about politics is going to upset half their fan base. It doesn't matter if it is Curt Schilling or LeBron. Putting money over Honk Kong citizens dying in the streets isn't a good look.

Yes, thanks. That was my point. It wasn't obvious that he would be Hobby 1B (along with Hobby 1A (Jordan) and Hobby 1C (Kobe)) at the time.

Same with Brady. Up until a few years ago he was still seen by many as a system QB that joined the right org/coach.

I'm just appreciating the greatness that we have witnessed.

Kareem, Ali, Russell all pissed off a ton of fans in their days as well for speaking out on social justice issues. I think it's pretty interesting that Zlatan puts Ali as his sport hero given his comments on Lebron... now when it comes to Hong Kong, yes Lebron's double standards on that issue were very critique-worthy imo. Regardless, dope player. I do think he will come to be even more appreciated post-retirement like all those greats I mentioned. People wanted to burn Ali on the stake and now look at where he is in the pantheon of greats. And it's not like he was a perfect person either if you look at his whole record, but the charges of anti-Americanism and all that, well, they tarred and feathered him with that for quite a while. Back to the original sentiments, yes, appreciate greatness while it's here. I loved Jordan, Kobe, Bron, had the pleasure to watch them play live and think it's a wonderful thing getting to see such amazing athletic talents. Void will be pretty large when Bron leaves until the next GOAT fills the vacuum, am hoping it can be one of these young guys and that we don't have to wait too long.

You may not like the opinion, and you can turn a blind eye to it all that you'd like, but it is one reason why people can stand him.

And people are within their right to not like him. This is sports, you can enjoy or dislike a player as you wish. Be boring if we all agreed on everything and thought the same things on these athletes. I think it's the range of different opinions that makes the discussions interesting.

There is a significant difference between what Kareem, Ali, and Russell went through, spoke out against, and how they articulated it compared to LeBron.

LeBron has been coddled his entire life and doesn't know what he's talking about most of the time.
