i did the math and he'd have to play about another 5 seasons averaging 24 points a game to catch Kareem. A pretty tall order, but you never know with Kobe!

It'll be sad when Kobe retired. He's pretty much the last player I idolized because I was young enough to still do that when he came into the league

There is no doubt in my mind that Kobe wants to pass MJ in scoring. I doubt he can catch the other two though.
He has become less likeable, but I still respect his talent and drive and offer congratulations to him on the milestone. |

Kareems record is one that will take a ton to break. A player will have to play like 25+ yrs in the league to do it.
Todays game makes it hard with how athletic players are. The game has change a lot between the decades and so many factors add and take away from comparing players out of era. Imagine the NBA goes got a 100+ game schedule. That would make it easier for a player to get more career pts! |

i agree with everyone above that the record will be a very tall order....but if jordan had played straight through without retiring twice. i think he could have came close to it.

I will admit I have never been a laker fan or Kobe fan (espicially after the Colorado incident) but I do respect what he has done in the game. Congrats Kobe. I am also debating if I want to add a Kobe auto to my collection and also which one? I do like the UDA items better but I like the fact he signed his full name with Panini.
Maybe I will go for the VC/Kobe dual auto. |

as johnny said below, or are you going to argue with that math? yes, i obviously think his retirement of 3 years would have got him 6000 points or else i wouldn't have said it, would I?

Woulda coulda shoulda! Listen up.. MJ didn't, because he couldnt. If you want to play the what if game then Kareem could have easily had 10,000 more points player 5 more yrs if he wanted. Malone could have played 5 more yrs and had more points too. Get the drift?

i agree there is no way of knowing but you forget 2 things Jordan doesn't walk away , bulls never lose pippen and he slowed down because he was away from the game ,first comeback he let players like nick Anderson school him in the playoffs ,got back into basketball shape and took over the league again ..just my opinion

Im sorry he didnt get 37,000 pts. Its not my fault. But hey, if you want to gift him 6k pts and maybe 7 more rings, hey then we can sit here say he had more rings than russell as well. Hell while we are at it, lets throw more all star games and let him take over kareem as well. lol Wait, lets add 6 gold medals as well..and lets just say that because there was only an olympics every 4 yrs, if it was yearly, MJ would have more gold then Phelps too!! Probably beat him at the 500m backstroke too!! |
