Exclamation Huge Scam Exposed - eBay Group Breaker Scam

First, I did not uncover this. It was emailed to me by someone else.

Second, I will try to leave all emotion out and just try to post the facts.

--------------------------

Example #1: 2012 Topps Tier One Sandy Koufax Gold auto 2/5

Card is sold here: 2012 Topps Five Star Baseball Sandy Koufax Gold Auto Red Parallel 5 Dodgers | eBay

I know the numbering is difficult to see, but if you click on the image and then blow it up slightly, you can clearly see it is 2/5.

Please note the date, seller's name, and seller's location.

Now view this auction for an eBay group box break: 2012 Topps Five Star Baseball Break Hobby Team Grab Bag 24 Los Angeles Dodgers | eBay

Please note the date, seller's name, and seller's location.

Finally, please view this video: 2012 topps five star baseball box break #24 - YouTube

Please note the date and username.

Notice that there is no way to know the date of the video - only the day it was uploaded.

Wow! I can't believe he got away with this for so long. Then again people that join breaks on ebay and just watch the videos on youtube are pretty stupid...The only way is through live stream legitimately. We should get a bunch of us to win his Crown Royale he's running right now and leave negs

Maybe I'm a lil slow this morning, but if he was selling the hits from the break a week or two before the actual break, how did he satisfy/pacify customers for so long?

Wow. I'm assuming he never mentioned the eBay username of the big hit winner on the videos. Otherwise, you'd think people would realize it's the same every time. Crazy.

This is why I only get in group breaks with people who have a good track record.

The problem is, he does have a good track record...outstanding, in fact....previously, of course.

If a break isn't done live and recorded, and/or you don't trust the person, don't join.

Why anyone joins breaks that aren't live on a streaming site blows me away. I saw this guy before because he posts a ton of breaks. All you get is a YouTube video. What's to say he would break a box and get a $1k card, keep it and open another box with crap for the eBay break. What he did here is stupid on his part and I am happy he got caught!

I can't believe people buy into a break were tey can't watch it live if so desired!
Like mentioned before if he pulled a 1/1 e could easily post a video of a new box.

I wasn't quite getting that either.

From what I understand the scam goes like this:

1. Open product and film yourself doing it.

2. Sell hits on Ebay under username believeland33.

3. Auction off all the group break spots under the name 2291debbie.

4. Since he already knows the hits, make sure that believeland33 wins all of the spots that had high dollar hits(like the Dodgers spot when the Koufax was pulled)

5. Mail out the junk to all the other spot "winners" and no one is the wiser.

I don't know why anyone would bod on a break with "private" bidders. Just gives scumbags more room to maneuver.

Dan

Wow unreal. Also $80 for the Dodgers in a 1 box break seems a little nuts to me! Might be the reason this ended up being uncovered? What a scumbag! Always thought on the video breaks they would just open another box if they pull anything really nice.

Yea this guy was somewhat clever in the way that he did this. Bust the box then just make sure your other account wins the team that got the big hit. The old way of doing it where you open a box, get a big hit, then buy a different box to record would have still worked but not be as profitable. In that case you would still have to pay for the entire box again. Doing it this way the guy pretty much got the entire box paid for by selling the rest of the spots and got to keep the big hit without having to invest anything more into it. Of course, his big mistake was having the same obscure city name listed under both accounts. I love how the simplest things get these scammers caught!

Will Ebay even do anything about this? I have a feeling there won't be a quick fix on Ebay's behalf as long as they get their fees.

I wasn't smart enough to figure this out either. Glad someone explained it. I guess us honest people just don't think that deep.

I bought into one break (a cheap one) and it wasn't filed live, just uploaded to youtube. It amused me b/c they filmed their watch first to show the time, then opened the box. I was thinking to myself, what would keep him from moving to the next box and setting his watch back if he got a big hit in the first box.

Don't fool yourself into thinking that as long as a break is streamed 'live' that it's 100% legit. It's very easy to feed previously recorded videos into a 'live' broadcast and claim they are happening live.

These scammers appear out of nowhere, build up an undeserved reputation and then steal your money. And *poof*, they vanish, like a magician.......

This is true however pretty much anyone busting a box of cards is going to have interaction with people in the room based on what is being discussed in the chat. It would be very easy to pick out a prerecorded break. If someone just signs on, busts the box, doesnt say anything, and signs off you know it was fake

This. I have never joined a break where the host isn't talking to the people in the chat room while breaking.
