my entire Jordan collection of 80's-90's inserts and all that...taken out by a busted water line in the basement. Thought I had them in a waterproof container, but I was wrong.

My dad bought me one pack of 1993 ud sp when I was younger and it sat in my attic for a long time until I came across a Jeter rc...I think I would've got a lot more for it had I immediately placed it in a toploader in 1993. 2 dinged corners later and I prob cleared 30 after ebay.

I had most of my cards in the attic for awhile. When I brought them down I found all the 2001 Quantum Leaf were damaged by the heat. The coating shrunk & cracked and most of the cards were stuck together. I was only able to salvage a handful.

My LeBron James Chrome Refractor Rc fell out of the top loader and I didn't notice until my brother handed it to me with a footmark on it

I first started collecting cards in 96, constantly pleaded with my mom to buy me a pack or two of 1996 Score whenever we hit the grocery store. Proceeded to take my prized possessions in to show and tell at school, then put them back in my front pocket on my sweatshirt. Zipped it closed and thought nothing of it. 8 year old me was not a happy guy upon unzipping the pocket a couple weeks later post washing machine trip to try and find out what the hell was lumped in my pocket. World was absolutely shattered knowing my favorite cards had been destroyed. Looking back, I was lucky if it there was $10BV worth of cards in that stack I brought in. Mini Seanathan297 wasn't about to fall for some reasoning bull-ish after just destroying a 96 Score All-Pro Emmitt Smith base card though...

I traded for a Jerry Rice rookie and Montana RC when I was 7 or 8. My parents got wind of how much they may be worth and put them in a fire safe. Years later, at least 12, when I got back into collecting, I asked about it. I imagined pulling out a couple of crisp 9.5s

Not so much.

Although I kept them in pennys and toploaders, I forgot that the previous owners never imagined BGS. They are pretty rough on the corners and the Montana is badly off center. I keep them and love them though because they are some of the earliest cards I remember really wanting and I got them.

I had a stack of 86-87 basketball cards that my brother and I used to play with when I was younger. I'm not sure what they looked like when we got them but by the time I realized what they were i'd be shocked if anyone of them would have graded better than a 2 or 3. The only good one I remember having was a Charles Barkley rookie, I'm just glad there wasn't a Jordan in there.

Had just scanned in a few vintage T206's in ex+ condition--I used to scan cards raw for the best images. I forgot to remove them from the scanner. My little girl, 4 at the time, came across them and knowing how much daddy loves his cards, made a beautiful picture with them--by cropping them and gluing them to a poster with drawings and paint.

All together it was 8 t206's, all HOFers including walter johnson and a couple of rare backs (hindu's).

When i was in high school around 1990 I once witnessed a kid rip a 1968 Topps Nolan Ryan/Jerry Koosman RC in half....That event is burned into my head and will never go away..lol

I remember as a child pulling a 1992 Donruss Elite Frank Thomas from a box of cards. Numbered to 10,000, these cards were actually considered extremely rare back then. It appears I dinged a corner putting it into a protective case.....doesn't matter anyway, I'd never sell it.

I don't have a story about a destroyed collection, but mine is just as heartbreaking.

After college I didn't trust my parents to protect my collection, so I went home one weekend, pulled out all my good cards and brought them back to keep in my apartment. Me and my best friend rented the upstairs of a house and we had access to the attic, so I stored them there. Not long after this my job sent me to Houston for three months, they kept extending me until the stay was over a year. Well, during this time my friend also was transferred, so I asked him to get everything out of the attic I had stored and put it in storage.

Only later did I find out that he did not realize that my cards were in the attic, he had pulled out everything but those. Of course the Landlord wouldn't let me go in and look for my stuff, it was his stuff now

We're talking multiple sets of 86-87 Fleer basketball, with at least three Jordan rookie cards, the big rookies from 84-86 Topps Football, 1000s of magic cards from unlimited, revised and Antiquities.

It still kills me to think of it to this day, even though it happened 15+ years ago.

Wow this one definately takes the prize...although you would have to admit that you have the most bad #@#@#@ authentic baseball card collage ever made! What did you end up doing with it?

eBay that sucker off. Can you imagine the traffic it would get? Then again, if my daughter made that, it might end up framed on my wall. Great conversation starter .

What's funny about this thread is that I just did that, which was go through a box that I had laying around since last year hoping to score a Kaepernick, or something (found a Russell though!). What can I say - get cards, dump'em in a box, and forget about them, so maybe a year out is not that old.

Anyway, I took notice that I had cards from all the companies and what stood out was the UD cards. They're so much THINNER than most; the few Topps cards I pulled out were perfectly fine, but the UD stuff was dinged up around all 4 corners.....

My biggest had to be a 1961 or so Topps Mickey Mantle that I had on consignment. Looked like some kid put it through the spokes of his bicycle. All chewed up and beaten to smithereens. Still got $20.00 SV for the card on ebay though.

My little sister drew a Fu Manchu mustache on a 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee Wayne Gretzky rookie card...I ended up throwing it out because of the pain it caused whenever I saw it...
