COMC needs to police some of these sellers....Sellers like Joelshit and Rookies and jerseys are ruining the site for everyone.I know comc is not afraid to ruffle feathers with some of the bigger sellers as Swagcards has left the site due to some sort of issue and Swag was/is a stand up guy as far as the couple times I have interacted with him. Hopefully they can get these 2 in line.

I haven't seen this mentioned much, and I rarely have it happen, but it is both confusing and a bit irritating to say the least. Has anyone ever been in an offer, counter offer situation, and say you are the buyer and offer $30 on a card. The seller comes back with $45, so you come back with $35 figuring you might be coming to a mutual $40 or so...and they come back with $50?! What the? I am not talking coming back with $45 once again, effectively saying I can't budge on $45 as I get that...but why raise it? Some people I will never understand, but it is the same at shows, etc I suppose, so it comes with the territory.

I will admit I have done that in the past, with a particular member that has recently shown up again. This was when you would get a barrage of offers, over and over, the same card and the same price...day after day (or sometimes in the same day.) I'm glad the 3 strike implementation is around now, as I utilize the hell out of it for them, lol.

This can and should be easily fixed in the user interface by informing a buyer in the middle of a negotiation that the price has changed and what the original price was.

From their point of view, I'm guessing they don't see it as worthwhile to intervene. These guys send in their cards and pay the quarter same as anyone else - they set their own prices - and act like a turd on their own.

What happens is people stop purchasing from them after a couple of interactions and the repeat business ends. What would be nice is a way to filter out or block certain sellers on the site to avoid having to see their cards.

I guess I'm in the minority. I don't mind if a person raises a list price after an offer has been made. In most cases, it's because the seller is now alerted that their list price is way too low. I understand the frustration since this has happened to me as a buyer, but it's also a good safety mechanism as a seller. Yes, I've even done it myself. Just yesterday...

I had a card listed for $9 which is now selling on Ebay for over $20. I wasn't aware I was so low until someone placed a lowball offer on it. When I saw the other copies of the card on the site were triple the price of mine I knew something wasn't right. After doing my research I raised my price. I did give a counter-offer to the potential buyer based on the original price. Although it wasn't as "generous" as it might have been before.

I see this as a legitimate use of the action. What these guys are likely talking about is that you offer $12 on a $24 card. Seller counters and you counter back meeting in the middle. Instead of accepting the offer - seller jacks price of the card up to twice what they countered at making it impossible to negotiate any further. I had this happen a couple of weeks ago with a card I wanted...just seems like a lame way to do business.

I dunno...I always operate under the assumption that a card is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Excuse me, but I have NEVER sent back an offer on a card that was more than was originally asked

Please do not lump me in with that

Easy way to not waste your own time: don't lowball the sh!t out of people who are already priced the lowest on the site.

Fair comment. I've been guilty of it on occasions. Sometimes it works but I know I only have myself to blame if I make an offer and essentially alert a seller to the fact he's already significantly low. If he subsequently raises his asking price, I don't have a problem with it. Shoulda just bought the damn thing in the first place!

I try not to get worked up by anybody's practices on the site. I agree with what many of you have said about dealing with the big boys. I rarely make offers to the top 10 sellers. I will mention that I've made three offers in 6 months to RnJ - one he countered, I rejected; another he countered, I accepted; a final time he straight up accepted so he's ok with me. I've made two offers to Joels, once each in Sep/Oct, both of which he flat rejected - in both cases I've subsequently bought the same cards even cheaper and both are currently for sale from others at less than I offered him. Joel ain't budged on his prices though and I won't be troubling him again. Not had much success with jseau either - the only time I've ended up buying from him I offered $20 on a card he was asking $25 for, which he rejected. Offered him $22.50 and he accepted. I wanted the card obviously or wouldn't have gone back with an increased offer but the thing is, jseau is an amazon seller so he was prepared to take $20 off a random through amazon, but not me. Whatever.

Ultimately, though, they're the seller's cards and he can ask for whatever he wants.

Oh man, me too. As an occasional flipper, I do my fair share of lowballing. I actually think it's kinda funny when sellers pull the kinds of shenanigans the OP describes because, to some degree, I do the same types of things myself.

That said, when I am pricing my items, I always price them at the lowest on the site (people will eventually set them lower if the item doesn't sell, but I'll be damned if I'm not the lowest when I hit the "Save Price" button). What irks me is when the "starting point" is 50% below asking price on an item that's already the cheapest available on COMC, especially if that 50% is far below eBay. At that point, I just assume (and perhaps incorrectly, but it doesn't matter) that the buyer/flipper is trying to screw me, and I'll start pulling out all my stupid little tricks (counteroffer for a single cent lower than the original asking price, etc.). I have fun with it. If an entitled buyer feels like they're wasting their time negotiating the price of a card with me, then fine -- someone else will buy it. It's inevitable.

Exactly. Would the sellers consistently engage in these practices if they didn't work?
