Batting over .500 in meaningless games and being optioned to the minors

Trout had 135 PAs in the bigs before his "rookie" season. Puig hasn't seen real major league pitching yet.

We need to stop looking for the "next Trout." Folks it ain't happening. That was arguably the best rookie season EVER by a 20 year old. This day and age people try to compare everything to everything when it's just not feasible.
If you are talking about Trout's meteoric hype rise that increased card value 10 fold, that's always possible with anyone. But to look for someone to have a season like Trout did last year as a rookie, that's foolish.

The Seattle Mariners are either 2 or 4 home runs away from the most home runs in spring training in like a decade....so yea that's how much spring training #'s mean.

I get what you and others are saying, its only Spring Training... but it's Spring Training. It's a lot of the same guys that will be playing in a week even if rusty. It's not a AA or AAA game and if we can worry about Roy Halladay and other players not performing well either by losing velocity or poor batting average or losing a step defensively we should certainly give credit to a guy beating everyone by far in average and showing signs of power. This isn't like a guy hitting .340 and getting hyped up, this is destroying the ball for 4 weeks and this guy isn't a 19 y/o prospect.

Didn't read any posts in here just reacting to the title. Rediculous. A guy who didn't walk once in ST can't be the next Trout. He might be the next Vladdy but that's it. He'll get figured out like anybody who doesn't posses a good batting eye.

I hear the Yankees wanted to sign Yasiel Poäng, but Cashman ultimately decided that a jacked dude building IKEA furniture would not fill that void in the outfield.

I don't think he will be the next "Mike Trout" but I think the next guy to make a HUGE splash in the league like Trout did last year could definitely be Yasiel Puig.

I'd be ecstatic if he was the next Vladdy. Hell, I'd be happy if he was the next Raul Mondesi or Pedro Guerrero.

That's the million-dollar question.
(really, the million-dollar question is if he has an auto in '13 Bowman, but I didn't consider the possibility he might have a non-auto) Still, '13 Bowman Chrome seems more likely between the two.

We likely won't find out the identities of the players in the base set until just before it releases.

There were some pretty good Hosmer articles from Spring Training last year...
"No player in baseball enters the regular season hotter than KC's "Hoss". Over the past two weeks of Cactus League action he's maintained a blistering pace. In 77 spring at-bats, he's slugged an insane .714, amassing a .416 BA with five homers, eight doubles and a spring-best 29 RBI. The cracking sound off his bat has resonated throughout the league. Everyone from casual fans to scouts to teammates to living legends, like Hall of Famer George Brett, have showered the 22-year-old in adulation." |

Puig is a stud... 6-3 240 and can flat out hit and run. No need in comparing him to Trout. That's not to say he won't be a very good player.
The spring training games are worthless comment is old... yeah some pitchers he faced aren't that great but some of them were. That comment just cant be broad based for everyone. Well except for the Royals and their winning record... lol |

Brandon Belt has 8 hrs in spring training one more than he has all year last year. I hope he smacks a ton this year even though he faced a bunch of duds in spring training.
