Because Cobb had all of his hits in MLB.

Yeah that's true. But personally I think that they should add MiLB stats in addition to the MLB stats, at least if they want to create a fair 4,000 "professional" hits club. Thus adding Stan Musial and one other player (Hank Aaron I think) to the club as well.

Pete Rose was asked if Ichiro breaks his record with the combined professional hits, would Ichiro be the new hit king? Pete Rose retort: "Is Sadaharah Oh the homerun king?"

I have to say that I have personally witnessed Ichiro put on a homerun display. Yes, a homerun display! It was at the 2006 AllStar game in Pittsburgh. During the AllStar workout, amongst mashers like Pujols/Ortiz/Howard, it was Ichiro that put on a show of homerun power. He must have hit like 30hrs consecutively! I was certainly amazed.

Yeah this "combined stats across multiple levels/leagues" phenomenon is getting pretty ridiculous, especially as ESPN likes to push it. The one that really annoyed me was when they were trying to combine all of Kyle Busch's countless truck and Nationwide wins with his more paltry number of Cup wins to try to claim he was now ahead of everyone except Richard Petty. That's like saying the late Dick Trickle is the greatest auto racing driver ever because he had over 1,000 late-model wins plus two Nationwide wins in his career.
Yes, what Ichiro has done is very impressive, and I hope he's a first-ballot HOFer. But he doesn't have 4,000 hits in any one sanctioning body's records.
