Hernandez is going to have to keep pitching well for quite a few more years, IMO, to have the stats to get in. I know he's dominant, but the stats the Golden Era Voters are after aren't there, either. Not to mention King Felix is seven years (!) younger than Lee.

I like Pettitte as much as the next Yankee fan, but aside from one brilliant year in Houston and a couple great years in Pinstripes, he never achieved a consistent level of dominance you would expect from a HOFer. Great Yankee and a great pitcher, not quite Hall-worthy IMO.

Well I also didn't say anyone else is a lock besides mariano so that doesn't help the argument. I feel MO IS the only lock right now.

I made a post about this topic (including batters) a few months ago. Joe Nathan was another name that came up in this discussion.

2.79 career ERA, top 5 in Cy Young voting twice, could realistically make it to the top 6 or 7 in all time saves. I think he is making a name for himself in the hall of fame discussion

What about Mike Mussina? I feel it will take a few years but he will be put it eventually.

Another one that we brought up was Tim Hudson.

-Never had a losing (record-wise) season.

-8 seasons of 15+ wins

-Top 5 in Cy Young Voting 3 times

-Potential 2000 K club member

He never really got a lot of attention or led the league in many categories at all, but he has got himself into the 200 Win club. I don't think he will get in, but I just thought i would mention it

He's not current, but he should get in

If Halladay doesn't get in, Hudson doesn't have a chance. Great pitcher though

Mo could legitimately be the only active pitcher to get into the hall in the next 15 years.

Maddux, Pedro and Randy Johnson will most likely be first ballot, then nobody until Mo, then nobody for another decade+??? Wow

Mark Buehrle? Long shot, I know. But consider...

184-139 career record
sub 4 career ERA,
13 consecutive seasons of 10+ wins,
2 no hitters, one of them a perfect game
World Series champion, in which he won a game and saved a game
4x All Star
4x Gold Glove

Pretty good résumé, not quite hall worthy IMO, but he deserves to be discussed.

Locks:
*Rivera

Maybe with a few more good seasons?:
*Halladay
*Lee
*Sabathia

On the right track at least...:
*Hernandez
*Kershaw
*Verlander

And for what it's worth I think Darvish might be inducted into the Japanese HoF one day.

Darvish? Really? Daisuke had a good year or 2 as well, look where he's at.

Halladay needs a few more productive years. Kershaw and Felix both need 5+ more all star type years. Rivera only sure thing

Pettite prob stands good chance but steroids will hold him back unless bonds/mcgwire/Sosa start getting some votes

A lot of times you don't realize how good a pitcher is until you see what he was, and it's something that you almost have to measure in hindsight than project since you see way too many prospects with 1-2 years under their belt or even 5, get injured or falter in a downward career death spiral.

Sabathia is by far the closest active starting pitcher to the HOF. Consider that all of Verlander, Kershaw, and Felix Hernandez are BEHIND Sabathia's pace to get to 300 wins (IE - At the same age, Sabathia had more wins). Hernandez is very close, but still behind.

Talking about a starting pitcher's HOF chances BEFORE the age of 30 or 200 wins is just silly. Roy Oswalt, Johan Santana, Josh Beckett, Jake Peavy, etc all looked like they were on their way to a HOF career before the age of 30.

Cooperstown will have to relax their "magic number" of 300 wins for starters to allow many (if any) more starting pitchers into the HOF, but Sabathia may be the only player to start their career post 1990 to get there. At barely 33 years old and over 200 wins already, its well within reason to think CC could pitch another 7 seasons and average 14 wins per season. He's easily having the worst season of his career in 2013, and will still probably win 13-14 games. 300 is no lock, but whatever stats he finishes with will probably be enough to meet the new relaxed standards, and he's about the only pitcher in the game you could give a better than 50% chance of getting to 300 wins.

Not enough Sabathia love in this thread. Only 33 years old, and 3000 K is well within his grasp (2366 currently). If he can continue to pitch well for 5ish more years, he could be a for sure lock.

If Verlander had 2 more great years and then 5+ more years of what he did this year, he'd be a HOF'er. For me, a HOF pitcher is a guy who was a top 3-4 pitcher for 5 years or more of his career.

The way he is going this year and with his body type, I'd be shocked if he makes it another 5 years. If he does I doubt that its at anywhere close to an elite level.

Yup. If this year is a sign of things to come, its about to get ugly for Captain Cheeseburger Sabathia.

He was the closest chance we had at another 300 game winner, but who knows now.
