I am still in shock by how many atheists are on this message board. You have to have a really strong faith in science to believe we actually came from monkeys.
For one, I'm agnostic, not atheist.

For two, I do have fairly strong faith in Science. They helped us figure out the world wasn't flat, helped us figure out the solar system, gravity, electricity, transportation, space travel...Science is pretty dang impressive and I imagine you have pretty strong faith in it as well unless you don't use pretty much any modern technology.

Creationish-Evolution takes a lot of faith from either side. At the end of the day none of us were around to see it, and I'll take Science's side while you take religion's.

You really believe we come from monkeys?

I would think that takes far less faith than believing that the one particular book and set of beliefs you have are 100% correct and the thousands of other books and sets of beliefs held by hundreds of millions of other people are, in whole or in part, incorrect.

I do not believe that "we come from monkeys." I believe that humans and modern apes share a common ancestry...so we don't "come from" them but we both come from a common mammal from long ago before branching off into what apes are today and what we are today over years of genetic variation and adaptation.

I'm not criticizing at all when I say gay/lesbians have all those same experiences/troubles. This aspect is the part of this entire discussion/situation that bothers me most. I work in publishing, in San Francisco. If I felt gay people were somehow different and therefore inferior, I would have very little interactions.

Could have fooled me. The "Christians" such as yourself sure seem to love to pass judgement onto others. It's not your place to tell people how to live their lives. I'm an Agnostic Atheist thank you very much.

So we come from apes, not monkeys? Sorry to misrepresent your belief.

You also need to have really strong faith to believe we actually came from a God in the sky... I don't see what your point was?

I agree and I don't mean they don't have that to share. I mean more...sharing it from a gay/lesbian perspective wouldn't bring much more to the conversation around here. In some venues it's really valuable to have that input but on a card collecting forum I don't think it would. I mean maybe you'd meet a fellow gay card collector and you could share experiences, but otherwise I think it'd cause more headaches for the gay person than anything.

Yes, I do. Can you prove we don't? In fact can you prove anything about where you feel we come from?

Sharing a common ancestry is not "coming from apes."

It's like, I share a common ancestor with Ralph Waldo Emerson, but I do not come from Ralph Waldo Emerson. A while back in my lineage there was a guy who had some kids and one of them had kids that led to me and another one of them had kids who led down to Ralph Waldo Emerson and his descendants today.

So we both came from some dude that we had in common. That's us and apes. There was some creature, and some of its descendants became us and some of its descendants became apes. That's an oversimplification of it but that's the gist.

Wouldn't you agree that's kind of unfair? I know we humans don't make the rules about what happens when we die, whatever it is that happens, but I'd rather be club-less and doing good works because it's the right thing to do than in a club in faith that that club will get me in as long as I follow a few rules.
So basically what you're saying is why can't someone live their life as they see fit and still make to Heaven, along with all of the Christians? It's all because God created everyone and only wants a relationship them. Those who become Christians are doing that. Those who choose to deny God obviously aren't. So if you choose God here on earth, you'll get God in the afterlife. If you choose otherwise, you get the other place. It's your choice.

Since this is a sports forum I'm just gonna put this out there...

What if we were still playing by the rules of football that were made when it was created? Or basketball? Or anything else?

Over time, due to things people realized, the rules were changed. Things that were archaic were updated. The games were improved.

Yet you have a really strong faith in something completely outdated?

I bet the PTO where you teach would be proud of your ramblings on this site. Again I am so thankful I chose private schooling over the chance of having my children subjected to this nonsense.

I get that, it's just like...in the Christian worldview it's God or nothing. Why can't it be like...Good Christians, Bad Christians, and then everyone else, if that makes sense. I know if you're of faith it's as simple as well you believe and you get in or you don't and you can't, but I just can't get behind that. I mean it's like how babies would die in childbirth before being baptized and people had to revise things over the centuries because they didn't want those babies to end up falling from Heaven. But for a while, like back in Dante's time, they were hellbound. And that's not fair to them like it's not fair to those who do good works but just don't accept religion into their lives.

Correct. Accepting Jesus as your Savior is the only way to get to Heaven. So yes, it's the only proper religion.

Haha I really liked your first sentence but then your second sentence I was like ugh. I know we don't agree on this but I'm not bashing your side, just sharing my opinion. If you guys want to think we came from God that's your choice...neither of us is truly going to know until we die, if ever (if I'm right haha) so why cut each other down over a viewpoint that ultimately doesn't matter? We're here, let's be good people while we're here.
