Probably because it makes it more difficult for people to steal the pictures and list on ebay.

This guy gets it....and DeGrom stuff sells lightning fast now it seems, so I'd like to slow down the scammers.

I did a high end lot about a month ago here with PSA 10s of Harper, Posey and Bryant...and all three pictures were on eBay within 24 hours of posting here. Was fun spending 30 minutes on the phone with eBay to make sure they took the scammer's auctions down. I suggest white outs and watermarks to any seller here selling HOT cards.
