They're likely being overly cautious with JV. A calf discomfort is a whole lot different than an arm or elbow injury. And he was still pitching well during the game, so I'd guess if he knows the CY is on the line, he'll be out there to push the limits imo.

Even if he was out all September, he has it locked up still IMO. Maybe McLanahan would make it interesting.

The only downside with Verlander's numbers is his "low" strikeout total.

If his innings aren’t high enough to qualify for the ERA title that hurts his chances big time. It opens things up for McClanahan and Cease. But I think it’s a mute point because I doubt he misses much time for a calf injury.

Exactly.

A calf injury is literally one of THE most least worrisome injuries. He probably just got a cramp. He'll be fine.

He’s only 13 inn away. I doubt he will miss that many starts. For most guys averaging 4-5 IP per start that could be an issue, but JV seems to average around 7 IP per start. Shouldn’t be an issue.

If he tore something then he will be out for the season. He was sent immediately for an MRI, it doesn’t seem like just a cramp

I would agree if a slight tear, he's done for the regular season with them essentially locked for the playoffs

Awesome how Alcantara got his revenge vs. the Dodgers, the other night.

I love watching him work out there.. one of the best modern pitchers I've seen

Well, this year anyway.
He's still only 32-40 in his career and this will be his first sub 3 ERA season.

His career ERA is 3.12 not too shabby at this point.

So Sandy cruises to victory now barring the combination of a disastrous last 6? starts and someone like Rodon shoving all the way home.
Highly unlikely

Sandy should have been the National League's Starting pitcher, at the AS game...

In L.A or not

I'm curious if the manager approached him and said "we all know youre the best pitcher on the team, but we want to do something special for Clayton" and Sandy conceeded.... Great pitcher w. Class.. hard to find these days.

Kershaw obviously deserved to start!!! He was the better pitcher in the 1st half and has been better since the break!

WAR this season:
Kershaw - 1.8
Alcantara - 7.0

Remind me again when Sandy had a PG through 7 and a nono thru 7 only to get pulled by his manager?

Sorry, don't have an answer for you.... I do know this happened at this years AS Game.

Kershaw pitched a scoreless top of the first inning, though he did allow a hit and a walk. Alcantara, meanwhile, was borderline untouchable.

It was as dominant an All-Star display as any Marlins pitcher in recent memory. Alcantara became the first Miami pitcher to throw a perfect inning in an All-Star Game since José Fernández did so in 2013.

I wasn't trying to highlight a Stat at all.

Just making the case that Sandy should have been the Senior Circuit's starting Pitcher in this year's AS game, in L.A or not

but I'll leave you to it to discuss.

This is a major Dodgers homer take.

Kershaw was 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA in 71.2 innings

Alcantara was 9-4 with a 1.76 ERA in 138.1 innings

Not even within the same stratosphere. L.
