My dude. Where exactly do you think I’m spending $50k for a week in Maui?

Couple rental spreads around Kahala that'll easily set you back 6 figs a month if you really bout that life.

Anywho. Reading this thread is sobering. My heart goes out to all those inhabiting neighborhoods where minorities are so much of a daily visual/vocal distraction that it's impeding their quality of life.

Heck, I'd probably be unaware of the fact they existed if not for seeing their Teslas/ Merc SUV's pulling into their driveways daily.

Thanks for letting us know you are dropping $50K again. You must be a hoot to hang around with. I am taking my family to Hawaii next summer, but will do it for under $10,000 for a family of 4. I guess I won't have fun though, because I need to spend at least 5 times the amount to enjoy myself.

Are you renting a car there? Break-ins of vehicles is rampant in Maui, but you can pretend it is the safest place in the world.

Had to point it out again because you seem to think money can’t get you out of danger in certain locations.

It’s all about having control of outcomes. Which you can’t do in NYC short of taking a private car everywhere. Easily doable, but a giant buzzkill to spend that amount of time out of a vacation in a car.

This sounds like a profoundly paranoid and propaganda filled existence but to each their own

This is what happens when you don't live in reality, but read religiously about others skewed perceptions of it. I don't know where he wanted to visit in NYC, but I guess it wasn't Midtown, Greenwich Village, and SoHo. You would have to pull a Mark Sanchez to get stabbed in that area.

It sounds wacko, and it is, but a lot of people really do have outlooks like that. Based not on first hand experience but second or third hand reports from their preferred brand of propaganda.Hence why smooth brains think Portland is a warzone.

A lot of other people spend their time sitting around watching the news clutching their guns and having these weird power fantasies where they use them to rescue their family from grapist immigrant burglars or whatever. Pretty sad existence.

I'd rather take the wrong turn down most minority-dominated parts of town than accidentally turn into the wrong middle aged white guy's driveway these days. Lot of em think that gives them a license to kill.

I’ve been all around the world and I can tell you it feels safer in Russia, Arabic countries etc than in Illinois’s St Louis. I guess it will get worst with the gap between rich and people in poverty widens..

The most common refrain so far this corporate earnings season is that the U.S. economy is increasingly divided between wealthy consumers and everyone else.

While many Americans tighten their belts amid rising costs and a weakening job market, a fortunate few are still spending freely, insulated by a financial cushion of stock market gains and years of rising home values.
...
The U.S. economy has been turning more “K”-shaped for decades, with the high-earner cohort doing better and better while others fall further down the economic ladder.

In 1989, the top 10% of U.S. wealth holders already controlled about 61% of the total wealth in the economy, according to Federal Reserve data. Today, it’s about 67%.

We are in a two-tiered economy, with the gap widening over time -- how will this effect the trading cards market going forward?

Have you seen what he posts on IG? Dude has unfortunately entered the twilight-zone of the extreme right. It sucks, too, because he has a ton of hobby knowledge and insight.

Mentioned at the end of article is the trend of higher-income consumers going into delinquency at a much higher rate than a half decade ago, and fewer job openings being available for higher-paying white collar jobs. I believe this is resulting in more so-called job-hugging -- where older workers hold onto their current jobs for dear life -- and lower salary growth because of less job mobility.

Will this negatively affect the hobby going forward?

Depends on how aggressive debt collectors are.....because there are a LOT of people in a LOT of debt right now.

Virtually every type of debt is showing people falling behind on their payments and delinquencies rising.

But as long as credit cards companies continue to set minimum payments at around 1% of the outstanding debt and don't lower credit limit, most people will be able to continue to muddle along.

Do you have a source for the part in bold as data from the St Louis Fred says otherwise.

Fred data focuses on delinquency rates at commercial banks only

Need to look at the NY Fed, it captures the full household picture

Both are accurate they just measure different scopes > household wide vs. bank held

Correct

He hasn't made it public yet but some of the collection, not all, will be listed on Fanatics and Goldin sometime this month iykyk

These were also "take to the grave" cards... lol

Like I said, smart money is selling

There are certain cards that I am thinking of selling right now. Anything GOAT is stupid expensive, but the rest of the market is pretty normal. Anyone holding onto a card like the 1989 Upper Deck Griffey right now is silly. Let stuff go that you think is overpriced.

Most things are priced right and I am still buying. If you aren't chasing a top 5 name in each sport, there are great deals.

Went to a show yesterday.

Customers were not asking for Wembys but all the dealers had plenty of them for sale.

Not specifically card-related, but it's pretty obvious that the stock market is in some sort of AI "bubble". So I've been taking some profits and moving more money into cash/bonds.

That said, as others have noted, bubbles can last for a very long time. But it's interesting note that Microsoft stock dropped over 5 percent this week despite beating earnings estimates because analysts/shareholders were upset with how much money was being spent on AI without any apparent financial return.

So I think we're starting to move from "AI is the shiny new thing" towards "how is AI going to make corporations more profitable"....and if CEO's don't have a good answer to that question, investors are going to become more skeptical (and more reluctant to pay elevated PE multiples).
