M:I-VIII The Final Ghosting, I Reckon was pretty decent. Not as great as I had hoped, but if this is how they choose to end the series, I'm fine with it. I won't spoil it, but this movie does have some twists and turns that will set up the future of the series, should the IMF (or...) chooses to accept future missions.

Can't remember the last movie I saw in the theater but the Mrs and I saw Final Destination Bloodlines yesterday.
We saw the Original FD whenever it came out. My daughter loves them all. We saw 2-5 over the last few months on streaming. Final Destination Bloodlines was probably the best of the franchise, which is rare. The deaths were gory and sometimes funny and the story was good. 7.8/10

Watched September 5th last night (on Paramount+) and it was absolutely exceptional IMO.
Not surprised it's an Academy Award Nominee. The story, the development and backstage look at how it happened in real time touched so many personal areas for me. As a Jewish man, and a former member of the media and a journalist I loved it

Not looking good for Mission Impossible...
While it had a great opening, at $206 million worldwide....that's barely HALF of its budget back...($350-$400 million)...yikes Meanwhile, Disney finally gets a much needed win with Lilo and Stitch already 3.5x its budget ($360 million worldwide vs $100 million budget) |

They originally planned to release "Lilo" live-action on Disney+ which is a big part of why the budget was relatively low at 100m.
It tested so well, though, that they decided to go theatrical, which was clearly the right move. As of Mission Impossible, I read that with those kinds of franchise movies, each new one adds to the value of the previous ones (in terms of streaming, etc.), so they don't use just the box office numbers to determine how successful the new one is. Added to Tom Cruise recently saying that he wants to make movies until he's 100 years old, it seems extremely likely there will be at least one more Mission Impossible.

Not 2025 related...but
Time to fire up casting controversy again!! So..Disney got smacked around for "race swapping" Ariel, and Zegler not "white enough" for Snow White.. Now it's the nerds turn lol Rumors floating around that Hunter Schafer - a transgender female who had parts in the last Hunger Games movie and hit HBO show Euphoria, is being eyed to play....Princess Zelda in the live action adaptation Legend of Zelda coming in 2027 |

Maybe between that and Hermione in the new Harry Potter series, the heads of the offended will just explode, like in "Scanners".

Finally saw "Novocaine" with Jack Quaid.
Pretty good movie and a nice 1-2 punch along with his "Companion", also from earlier this year. He's also in "Neighborhood Watch" with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, released a month ago, so he's been keeping busy. Final season of "The Boys" is due in 2026.

Caught Thunderbolts and overall it was decent. I'd give it a 6/10. Would've been much better if it hadn't turned into a story about mental illness shoved down your throat.

I didn't really care for Mountainhead. Some people might like it, but it wasn't for me I guess.

I know it's not a brand new movie, but I just watched The Bikeriders yesterday. I though it was decent. Worth a watch. Little bit of slow story telling but well told and good acting. 7/10

I watched Mickey 17 this weekend and thought it was pretty weak overall.

I actually think he’s usually great in most of the recent stuff he has done but this one fell a bit flat for me.

Just saw "The Life of Chuck" as part of Harkins Cinemas' "Secret Cinema" which presents surprise movies usually the week before they open. You're not told what movie it is, and not even the genre, just the rating, which was "R" in this case. The running time for these is always given as 2hr30min, so you're unable to determine what movie it is using that. The upside is that it's only $5 admission for a nighttime movie.
We scanned the upcoming movies and it seemed like it would be a 50/50 chance between "Life of Chuck" and the John Wick spin-off "Ballerina". I'm glad it was "Chuck" since we'd planned to see that when it opened anyway, whereas I'd only be watching (any) John Wick via streaming. "The Life of Chuck" is from a novella by Stephen King and adapted to film by Mike Flanagan, who did "Doctor Sleep", the masterful sequel to "The Shining". I don't want to give anything away as it's a mystery that unfolds backwards, but this is a heartfelt, life-affirming story with a great cast headed by Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Mark Hamill. I highly, highly recommend it. 9/10 I'm not sure how well it will do in its box office run which begins this Friday, but this movie will very likely be considered a classic in the years to come, and is among the best Stephen King adaptations so far. Next up for Flanagan in the King universe is a new "Carrie" series for Amazon Prime.

I watched The Accountant 2 on Prime Video today to kill some time.
It was alright, no real action until the last 15-20 minutes. Most of the movie is centered around the brothers building their relationship, which had some funny spots, but not what I was hoping for from the movie...
