I only had the Ken Stabler rookie (1973) and the 1976 in this order, no 1974. Might have just been a typo by the previous poster. No worries, they look great!

![]() As a raw to graded collector, people have no idea how hard it is to find a collectors grade card from the 70's from certain years like this. I am on the fence about grading this copy. I only grade cards that I know have a 90% chance of getting a 7 from the 70's. I got it for $9, so I might just send it in with my next PSA or SGC order. For $15 it certainly won't lose value.

What are you feeling about good 70's raw in general on eBay? Particularly HOF RCs which we both collect. Every time I start really thinking about grabbing more raw, it feels like all the good stuff is dried up or a real nice copy is priced at an already graded "8" value. In which case, just by the graded already and lower this risk.

Certain cards I also gave up on and I think buying graded is the play. For instance, trying to chase a 1979 Ozzie Smith to grade raw is impossible. Just go buy a PSA/SGC 7 nicely centered copy for $100 to $125. COMC has about 40 raw cards of Ozzie's rookie and I don't think any of them would get a PSA/SGC 6. I won't buy graded very often, since I love the chase and game of grading. I have bought two 1979 Ozzie rookies that graded a 7, one with PSA and one with CGC. I kept the CGC one, because it was a nicer card. However, it bothers me since they used the dreaded sleeve. I may crack it and send to PSA/SGC.

thank you for that. It lines up with what I am seeing. Looking for the treasures on eBay is a lot of work. I think there is still a lot of nice 70's cards out there, but they are all offline somewhere. You need to find those offline or catch it at the right time once they do become available.

Raw vintage often sells higher than its equivalent grade. People overpay because they think the raw card will grade higher than it actually will. There are also many vintage collectors that want nothing to do with grading. I think you could make money by buying collectors graded slabs, cracking them, and sending them in bulk to Greg Morris to auction.

Just dropped of my package at the post office. Have three 50's Bowman cards and two hand cut 1952 Wheaties cards. No idea how they will grade the Wheaties cards or if they will just put authentic on them. I got them cut horribly from COMC, but they had the border and I cut them into a presentable shape. Am I a card trimmer now?

Even if you're way off, and it comes back a 6, a recent SGC 6 just sold for $70 a month ago. Even a 5.5 sold for $49, and yours has straight lines and semi-decent centering so I would definitely grade it. But that's just me, and then again, I'm a big fan of The Snake!

I embraced the Frankenstein Collection and there is no going back. I think a lot of collectors would lose their mind looking through my collection!

I personally have given up entirely on PSA for vintage. Their grading is too inconsistent for me, and they were absurdly harsh on vintage so I vowed never again. But again, that's just me and I totally get it if you're going for resale value, etc. My Frankenstein collection is less Frankenstein these days. My terms are simple. Vintage is SGC, and non-vintage is PSA. My "vintage" cut off is pre-1981, when Fleer and Donruss were introduced. But I get it that other people have their own cut offs.

The only time I got an unfair grader was one 20 card SGC submission, which must have been a guy that just found out his wife got pregnant by her yoga instructor. It was brutal! Cracked over 50% of them and submitted them again to SGC/PSA/CGC. Every card came back higher.

I am trying to learn how to stop the same behavior. I know the grades likley wont pop until at the earliest tomorrow but I've been checking multiple times a day since the order was accepted on the 12th. More than likely I'll be waiting into next week, but the waiting is the hardest part. |

Makes me sad to see this post with Kurt's Card Care products by this great card. You don't need to wear gloves with vintage cards to handle them, will probably cause more damage to them. Hopefully no shenanigans went into "restoring" this card.

I cannot make the pic bigger but looks like soft bottom corners and cannot tell if I see surface issues or maybe a print line,...looks closer to a 4 than a 6 from the little that I can see.

No, any moisture on this thing would likely ruin the surface. Got this from a local guy today, and the centering was too good to pass up! Wish he would’ve had it in a penny sleeve in the toploader, though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I haven’t graded much vintage, so not certain what to expect. The bottom two corners definitely have some fuzz. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Order Type: Standard $15/card 4 cards Order Shipped: 02/29/24 Order Delivered:03/04/24 Order Accepted: 03/06/24 Post-Grading: 03/22/24 Grading: 03/25/24 Shipped: 03/25/24 Returned: 03/28/24 (est.) Results: Generally happy. The card I most wanted to gem did. The Black I figured would be either 8 or 9, and grading was more to preserve and for the black-white contrast. My only struggle is the Vestige grade. That was 1 of 2 for which I expected a 10. Still new to grading so maybe I missed something. Still love the look of the white background within the SGC slab. Again, pleased with 1st SGC submission and will send more in the future. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Also, does the right edge look trimmed? Or is that just the pic? The white seems smaller on the bottom than on the top on the right side, but even on the left side. |

I’m just glad there’s a service that is cheap and not 3 month wait.I sent in 7 cards and 4 of them are 1/1 and I just wanted them slabbed.I will be happy with getting any 9.5 regardless but I’m not expecting.Hopefully things don’t change drastically because PSA now owns SGC. Could just be the picture. The cut on the sides of this thing are pretty rough. Surface imperfections exist, too. Luckily not on Hank’s face, but we’ll see. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
