2017 parallels are horrible, these cards look nice but parallels probably won't be much better a simple border helps

change the design, every year looks similar to the last. Go back and look at sets from 70s

I don't like that their digital product seems to dictate the design of their physical flagship line now.

This is spot on. It's funny, the last 2+ years of designs are basically interchangeable. Yet if you look at how they keep milking the 1987 design, it shows how having something distinctive can really make an impression. I can't imagine they'll have much success decades later if they try to roll out these contemporary designs and cash in on nostalgia. The only thing with a chance is 2011, which we were lucky enough to have a great design when Mike Trout's RC dropped.

Agreed.

But it's been a long time (1990, I think) since Topps has released a product with team names in color (rather than logos).

I like the look, just wish the wave wouldn't cover part of the name.

I agree with your assessment, I can't see these being very nostalgic later on. I am not surprised card design is being digital driven. I am sure in a perfect world, Topps would prefer a lot more digital sales over physical. Tis the future at some point.

The splash-wave thing needs to go. Have 2 full digital bars across with name and team logo to the left.

Not sure about the whole border fascination thing that others have. Not having borders gives it a modern up to date look and feel. I have a suspicion the whole borderless designs have something to do with the paper stock used to print flagship topps. Cards with borders have a thinker paper stock.
