Bobby Witt Jr. Hopefully someone with a long, successful career. Easy kid to root for.

Bobby is going to need even bigger numbers next year, if that’s even possible to maintain his hobby momentum.

Our hobby is as fickle as ever.

I disagree. All he needs to do is back up his performance next season and show he's the real deal. Then he'll establish himself as the best all-around player in the game

One issue that I think you've mentioned before is his lack of iconic cards -- he doesn't have a US175 or BDPP89 Trout card. His 1st BCA photo looks fugly.

Also, being a Royal and not in a big market will likely suppress his marketability. He's also unlikely to contend for a championship anytime soon -- though, that didn't hurt Trout's hobby status.

In addition to all the wonderful players everyone is mentioning, his career so far also reminds me of HOF 2B Tony Lazzeri who was part of Murderer’s Row, only better.

But really, rather than worry about him being the next _____, I’ll just settle for him being Bobby Baseball.
Come on, Skip -- he's the best all-around player in MLB this season. It hasn't registered with fans and hobbyists yet because it's still early. But if he backs up his performance next season, you might have yourself the next king of the hobby.

When nothing is iconic, it always goes back to the first BCA!

Oh, I agree. But I’m not worried about him being the next anything. If the hobby loves him, great. There is always plenty of room on the bandwagon. But if the hobby ignored him, that’d be ok too.

My money is on his 2022 Topps Update Photo Variations. The SSP and the Mullet are fantastic cards.

Lets’s just appreciate what Witt is doing. It’s amazing, and it’s awesome
Witt Jr is at 8.8 fWAR and will likely get to 10 this year. In his 3rd year he has 2 seasons beeter than any of Tulos. Tulo best was 5.5 WAR. Witt's on a completely different level. Could he get hurt? Sure, but if he is able to play 2-3 seasons of 10 WAR ball and then have something like the rest of Tulos career? That would be a HOF.

There have been 59 non-pitcher seasons of 10+bWAR. 48 of them are from HOF players. The 11 seasons from non-HOF players, 2 of them ended up not having put up HOF career numbers.
  • Aaron Judge
  • Mike Trout x2
  • Mookie Betts
  • Alex Rodriguez
  • Barry Bonds x3
  • Sammy Sosa
  • Rico Petrocelli
  • Al Rosen.

He is on a special track.

I think his power is trending up.
The following years we might see closer to 40

Good one. Less power more speed, better fielder.

Great info! AND Rosen & Petrocelli were 9.6 & 9.1 in fWAR - Witt is at 8.8 with 38 games left - Go Bobby Go! Just having an amazing year! Been fun to watch him get better each year.

Don't underestimate his power upside -- 116.9 max exit velocity this season; 10th highest of all hitters, right below Yordan Alvarez.

I’m not! It’s more a compliment to ARod being so prolific power wise for a very long time.

Wait… 106.9mph is 10th highest max EV??? I’m not even sure how to look this up, but I would have guessed a lot more hit 110+

Temp thread?

It’s a poll, and divided pretty evenly so far.
