Some people in this thread are hopeless.
"I notice when $5 is missing from my account. There's no way Shohei didn't notice $16 million!" Did you miss the part in the 37-page investigative report where it said that nobody had looked at said bank account once between 2018 and when Ippei started taking money from it in 2021? His Angels paychecks went into that account and nothing else. Know why? Because he has multiple bank accounts because he has so much money so he doesn't need to keep tabs on his accounts. His reps had access to every other account except that one. One that Ippei helped him set up in March of 2018. Eventually, Ippei was able to change the control on that account so he was able to access the money on his personal phone and computer, and even called the bank pretending to be Shohei to authorize wire transfers. One time a bank employee got suspicious and froze the account. So he called back and was able to fool another employee into unlocking it and giving him access again. And when Ohtani's reps asked for access to the account for tax purposes, Ippei told them that Shohei wanted that account to be kept private. Because he was stealing from it. Shohei had nothing to do with this. Nothing. Take your conspiracy theories back to Truth Social before it goes under. |

That has already been discussed ad nauseum. At that time, everything was going through Ippei and Ippei is the one that gave that information to the reps. A complete fumble job by the reps and Ohtani's entire team should probably be fired, but this isnt a situation of Ohtani changing his sotry because that story was literally made up by Ippei and fed to the rep for publication.

The OJ investigation concluded he was guilty. So I guess it's only ironic if you believe he was innocent. Do you? |

It's all about perspective. To you, something might seem impossible, but that doesn't mean it is. Your judgments of impossibility are based upon your own knowledge and experiences. And sometimes things just happen to be outside your knowledge and experience Example: Ohtnai had 0 text messages about sports. This coukd very well mean he never bet sports ever it Could also mean he just bought a burner phone from Walmart |

I just said that's not what the evidence is showing. And to believe what the evidence isn't showing requires some pretty big assumptions. And you are the one making those assumptions. One of which is what a bookie would say in this thread. Because I have given a completely rational explanation for what a bookie would say that completely contradicts what you assume they would say. But you reject it because it doesn't fit your narrative. Oh, and by the way, I've worked federal investigations. It's not hard to find when people use burner phones. To think the feds just gave up on Ohtani because he used a burner and they couldn't find it is extremely naive. Last edited by OhioLawyerF5; 04-12-2024 at 12:56 PM. |

because of the amount of people who believed he was innocent. Like what we're doing in this very thread, was also done around the time of OJ's trial, albeit without twitter/social media and forums.

Oh, I have. Your rejection of it doesn't mean it isn't rational. You are stuck in this loop of thinking there can't be an explanation for something that you haven't anticipated. So there's no possible way to convince you otherwise. You will automatically reject it.

Ippei is like 40 years old, let's say he's looking at 8-10 years for pleading guilty to the fraud/theft thing. What is your price for spending your 40's in prison? If Shohei is a degenerate gambler who's been gambling to the tune of $180 million the past few years, are you at all confident Shohei can pay your price when you get out? If Shohei is a degenerate gambler, are you confident Shohei doesn't get himself banned and that $700 million dollar contract voided while you're sitting in prison? The fact that Ippei is likely to plead guilty and is looking at real prison time is telling. People do whatever they can to avoid/minimize prison time, the Justice system only functions because of that fact, it would otherwise be in gridlock. The fall guy thing isn't really believable.

It's not irony that people jumped to incorrect conclusions then, and are jumping to incorrect conclusions now. It's called human nature.

I think you view the operation as not caring where the money is coming from as long as they are getting paid, when they actually are gonna care very much where it’s coming from when owed 20 million and would prob need some assurances beyond “I’m good for it, always have been” to keep allowing the number to get bigger |

Fronted hundreds of thousands at a time while owing 8 figures. Let’s call it unlikely to do that for someone that makes say 200k a year There is a huge difference in situations between (1) give 500k credit get paid give mroe credit and don’t care where it came from and (2) give 500k mroe credit to someone 8 figures in the hole Last edited by johnlocke36; 04-12-2024 at 01:13 PM. |

My takeaway from reading the transcript was that the bookie didn't care if Ippei owed $5M or $50M as long as he paid $500k regularly. If he cuts Ippei off, the likelihood of Ippei stopping the $500K payments is higher. Why not let him keep digging himself in a deeper hole and collect? Even if you don't get the full $40M, it keeps Ippei degenerately engaged and scrapping $500K a week.

(2) he claimed he already paid like 1/2 the total to his partner out of pockets. Obv this could be a total lie to try and collect but very possible he wasn’t final guy and agent for someone. Like was he really gonna take 300 million in action from one guy, but if he’s sub agent or laying some off he can’t always do the above |
