All the talk of a glut of tens makes no sense. There's already 8000 on the pop report. People already knew to grade this card a year ago. Of course there will be more graded over time but alot have already been graded. It's like not it was a guy who was unlikely to be graded and you have a 200 pop report shooting to 2000.

This will hopefully help buy some PC items. I’ll probably regret it starting in a year or two down the road, but it’ll be nice to pick up some PC stuff. I wish I could’ve picked up more Tatis autos since buying this one.

2019 Topps Update Tatis RD Auto front by michael scott, on Flickr

Or do I sell these instead; base, chrome base, Refractor, Sepia, Pink, Prism, & Xfractor. I’m already trying to sell some RD pinks and 1984’s. Not sure what I would regret more, selling the parallels or the RD auto.

Just put a PSA 10 2019 Update Walgreen Yellow up in BST. First come, first served.

This is true, people were certainly submitting them last year. However, I think you'll agree, the landscape of collecting FTJ cards has changed dramatically since this season started. He has taken the mantle as the hobby golden child and his market activity is in full-blown fervor mode.

There is, without a doubt, a TON of #410s and US56s sitting at PSA waiting to be graded. Now, that doesn't necessarily mean there won't be a place for those 10s once they get fitted for their new plastic suit.

The [weird/great/bad] thing about the paper and chrome base is that people don't seem to just buy one for their collection. There are a lot of people that treat them like stocks and hoard 50 or 100 copies. I don't understand this approach but it seems to be popular enough (see: US250 & US300).

So I think even when (not if) the pops hit 12k+ the markets will still be functional because of this.

Freddie Freeman (156 AB)
AVG .333 OBP .450 BB-31 SO-26 HR-10 RBI-42 OPS 1.084
Fernando Tatis (178 AB)
AVG .303 OBP .396 BB-23 SO-48 HR-15 RBI-40 OPS 1.031

Both elite defenders.

Tatis has five more homers, but look at that SO/BB ratio for Freeman. Tight race, folks..

It did not make nearly as much financial sense a year ago. Or even two months ago. Think of all the factory sets just sitting at Target that have now been cracked and sent in.

In the last month the pop report on PSA 10 has gone up 1000, and that's before all the value and economy submissions have even hit. The pop report will likely double by opening day next year. At some point it will pass acuna us250 and no other card in the industry will have more PSA10s.

That said, Acuna is at 15000 and his cards are still holding strong (although certainly down from their $250 high in March). Tatis 410 will be just fine, though probably without the growth potential of some of his more limited popular cards.

You left out WAR, which is so popular with voters. Tatis is a full point higher, which is a pretty big margin after only 6 weeks.

Freeman is certainly in the conversation along with mookie. It's a bummer Soto and Acuna missed time, otherwise we'd have a really fun race between the three youngsters.

Freeman is trailing pretty handily in both bbref's WAR and fg's WAR. Tatis and Betts are tied in bWAR, Tatis is ahead by .7 in fWAR.

Freeman is an average defender, Tatis is above average.

I have this feeling that I want to see Tatis deliver more important hits - I'm not even talking about HRs - just important hits. He's had a lot of big moments, but (at least since I started watching) most of them have come at inconsequential times.

Granted, I'm still learning the game of baseball, which seems to be one built on doing all the little things right and keeping things tight. But the difference between a star and a superstar in any sport is the ability to step up at big moments and put the team on your back.

Even as I type this I know it sounds kind of ludicrous. He is young, exciting, has great stats, hasn't even played a full season yet, etc... so it is very true that too much should not be expected too soon. But all I know is that when he steps up to the plate with runners on base I don't yet feel "Oh yeah, Tatis has got this" - and I so badly want to.

Some interesting sales last night.....

Blue Refractor gem almost hit $2K
Gold Chrome Variation gem sold for $690 (Probstein) which was less then I anticipated based on the base comps

One of my favorite morning rituals reviewing Tatismania the night before

I would've bid more on it if it'd shown up in my searches. Didn't have 'Variation' in the title though.

Haha, every morning I do the same. The gold variation looks like a solid buy for someone! Had I been paying attention I would have bid on that. I thought it would take 1K at least to get that gold.

He’s doing very well w RISP this year. Also, there hasn’t necessarily been many “big moment” opportunities. Padres have been rolling as a team.

I think the upcoming series w the Dodgers will be telling, and obviously the playoffs are around the corner.

Agreed, he's batting like .433 with RISP. Not too shabby.
