I would have to agree and say you're pretty spot on here. If you corner the market, you get to set the value. I'd also add in a few people tossing in shill bids and "accidentally" hitting the BIN on fixed price listings to inflate the comps. Given the hobby's unhealthy reliance on comps, makes it much easier to claim "these are what they are going for".

The "perceived deal" is pretty crucial to sales. Everyone's looking for a deal. If the seller can create a sense of urgency and a clock on their deal, might be enough to prompt a buyer to pull the trigger.

Plenty of decision making processes to dissect in this market, it's interesting to spectate.

Sir, you just described cook groups. This is exactly what they do. They get everyone to buyout a card, and force a relist at a certain price.

Also, Mookie Betts is definitely in the discussion for MVP. I wouldn't say Tatis is the clear favorite.

— similar offensive production, but much better defense at a premium position
— leading a team to the post season, that has not traditionally been a shoo in

Are we forgetting Betts is a Gold Glove defender? Betts is an outstanding fielder.

I would say Betts has had slightly better offensive production. Higher average, less strikeouts(by a lot), similar OBP and slugging, Bett has the lead in OPS, tied OPS+.

I think it's a lot closer than people think, and wouldn't shock me at all if Betts won.

I agree Betts and Tatis are pretty dang close to each other at this point, but both are behind Freeman. All 3 are in the conversation, and whoever gets the hottest over these last 10 games will probably take it.

Both are BEHIND Freeman? Strongly disagree. I can see the argument for Betts on top though.

I'm a pretty big Tatis collector (have been since he broke in the league last year)....

I'm an Orioles fan... so, I have no bias on this...

But, I do agree... Freddie Freeman should be in the lead for NL MVP.

This little funk has really hurt Tatis. I'm hoping he can break out of it this afternoon and make a late 10 game push for the MVP... but right now, I think Freeman has the best shot.

I will take the guy that is superior at the plate. If offensive numbers were similar, then the defense argument holds water. Problem is their offensive numbers are not similar.

I'm looking at numbers, and they are close enough. Strongly disagree he is 1st, b/c I think Mookie is also ahead, but agree he is in the top 3 and it is close. Which offensive numbers aren't similar, AVG? Everything else across the board is pretty close, if not ahead by Tatis in some categories. You also have to consider (fair or not) media hype, etc.

Tatis ahead: HR, Runs, SB
Freeman ahead: RBI, BA, OBP

I still don't see what makes Freeman the clear leader.

I believe both FanGraphs and Baseball Ref WAR take in to account defense and both have Freeman right there with Tatis/Betts (ahead of 1 in each ranking)
