Hard to be nervous since he's one of the best players ever.

Yes, after seeing Luck drop out all of a sudden I'm now afraid for all my cards.

Completely different scenario here lol. Trout has not had the same injury rapsheet as Luck and doesn't play a sport where the average career span is less than 2 years... If you collect Football, then yes you should be afraid about that, but Baseball/Basketball, not so much.

One of the many reasons why I do not touch Football as an investment is exactly with what happened with Luck. Impossible to invest into a sport in which the injury chances are extremely high and with recent years, players just dropping out cause they can't deal with the damaging issues football has.

Will I hold cards of possibly the best player ever? Yep. Playoff success will not change anything IMO. Sure it could help a little but look at who one of the most collected, if not most collected players of the last generation, Griffey, still holds up, and he was not successful in the playoffs, and had a pretty weak career towards the end. Trout will contribute to be stable and rise as years pass.

This is also a very good point! Griffey is holding up well, and continues to gain each year! Even now the '89 Fleer

Nervous? Anything can happen to a player at any time.

If I was nervous about Trout I’d be nervous about anyone playing a game of sportsball around the globe for fear of the unknown. Why are we even collecting if that’s the case?

Recognize incredible talent when you see it, grab the bull by the horns or any other terrible cliche and just OWN IT! Buy them because they are GOOD. That’s why we collectively love (punny) Jordan, Tiger and Ruth. And Tiger out of those had a major setback both personally and physically. Players get injured, they arent sitting behind a desk all day like I am where I MIGHT twist an ankle trying to stand up. This -ish is hard on the body, playing baseball. Football even more so. UFC probably worse than that.

Collect because you love it along with the player and don’t spend too much money on one player you can’t afford to lose. Simple.

In baseball, playoff success doesn't translate into card price appreciation. What increases the value of baseball cards is regular season stats and overall recognized greatness. In fact, with Trout, it's actually good if he doesn't play too much post season ball because that gives him more time to rest his body for the regular season and reduces the odds of injury.

NO it is not. Everyone knows that Ruth sells for more than Cobb, Mantle more than Mays or Ted Williams, Jordan more than LeBron or Karl Malone, Brady more than Manning or Marino. Griffey might be holding up well, but why does Jeter, a borderline top 10 SS (12th JAWS, 10th WAR) and borderline top 100 player (87th in WAR and falling) bring Griffey prices?

Trout's cards are high because he is the best player in the game, but they would be much high if he was winning championships. In this era of 5/15 instead of 1/10 or 1/8 making the post season, constantly missing the playoffs and not dominating when he does is going to hurt his legacy. He is never going to be the greatest without rings.

I completely agree with this. I’m going to be bummed if the potentially greatest baseball player never wins a ring. Just doesn’t seem right.

Playoffs are definitely where legacies are really made. While a very good pitcher, Bumgarner is always going to be associated with his playoff domination, especially 2014. Kershaw blows him out of the water but associated with playoff losses, no matter how unfair that is to Kershaw, it’s just reality. Trout isn’t even associated with playoffs which definitely hurts baseball

As an Angels homer, I'd be disappointed too but that's just not how baseball works. One player doesn't make that big of an impact, even otherwordly ones. Look at the mega seasons Bonds had, no rings. Ted Williams? Nope. Sandberg, Fisk, Killebrew, Gwynn, Yaz, McCovey, Banks, Cobb, Griffey Jr? All ringless.

No GM in the world would take Bumgarner over Kershaw. Is it cool that Bumgarner has a reputation as a playoff assassin? Absolutely but Kershaw is going to be immortalized in Cooperstown, Bumgarner isn't. That's where "legacies are made".

I agree that it would be good for baseball if Trout was playing in October and it would certainly vault his place in the game that much higher. Even so, he has nothing more to prove, he's been the best player in the game for years and it hasn't even been close. One player cannot carry a team in baseball, even one that is going to be in inner circle HOF'er.

Everyone keeps talking about "inner circle". How many HOF guys are in this elusive inner circle?

If I was holding a bunch of Trout cards, I would would be way more worried that the cards are trimmed than I would be Trout's baseball value would go down. Next year he will be Hall of Fame eligible in terms of career length. He plays a couple of years more with similar stats and even an Andruw Jones like fall and he is still making into Cooperstown.

This is a silly comment. How can someone who has played ONLY 8 major league season have NOTHING more to prove? (Not saying 8 season ins't good just in terms of baseball longevity/HOF careers) If Trout were to have a career ending injury today how would his CAREER stats compare overall? Not season average but career totals?

I would say the only thing he has to prove is what kind of player he is during crunch time. I.E. pennant races and playoffs. The Angels have been a .500 team most of his career and not really in the hunt come September. Trout hasn't faced much pressure to carry at team through the finish line and in a playoff series. Bonds and Arod both took some hits (PED aside) to their legacies by struggling in the playoffs.

Regular season stuff, no nothing left. He is already cemented the best player of his generation.
