Please quote me saying I have written off Luis Robert. You keep assuming things. I actually believe he will be solid, and even be an All Star some years. My point was that he isn't Andruw Jones. That is literally the only point I was making.

There is nothing wrong with slashing .250/.330/.500 with his defense. That's a great player, but of course people investing in him don't want that. They want the hype slash line. The strikeout totals have been there his whole career so far as well, since he started in 2018. This spring he is striking out at a 29% plate appearance clip. Last year, it was 32.4% 2019, he hovered as a whole around 24% 2018 was 25% Now the minor league K rate isn't extremely awful, but it shows he is going to strike out a lot. Naturally it jumps when he advanced to major league pitching. It's not a huge concern if everything else falls into place for his hitting, because Ronald Acuna is in a similar boat. However, Acuna is at least drawing walks now, has a lot more power at the moment. If Robert can learn to work the counts, sure he can be a whole lot better, and that may happen. However, it takes batters sometimes a long time to mature into that. Steroids aside, it took Sammy Sosa nearly 6/7 seasons before he started to draw more walks. Getting on base is crucial to success, it's one reason I prefer Soto over Acuna and Tatis, because I feel he's going to get on base more often than either of those two. Heck, in the World Series vs the Astros, it was Soto drawing a walk that forced Greinke out and led to Howie Kendrick's monster 2 run homerun.

How about the spring for Steven Matz; 4th start today. Watch out Evil Empire. And Matt Joyce - 3rd calendar decade in the game, played his way right into Opening Day it looks like. Early on I thought Moniak would finally make it, dunno what happened there. |

If I were Maddon I'd probably ask him if we can just s-can the pitching for a bit and bring daddy 40/100, ok?

It's unheard of for a guy to be able to make 15-20 starts as a pitcher and say compile a 3.80 ERA with decent WHIP, k/BB splits, etc. and then to go ahead and slash .290/.380/.550 at the plate in 500ish plate appearances? If he actually pitches like an ace though...good gravy I had a 2018 Chrome Update international affairs auto of him, I forget how much I sold it for, I think like $250ish, but I gotta imagine that baby is worth way more now. I sorta gave up on him with all the injuries.

"La Russa added that "you’ll see him out there as much as possible" over the final stretch of exhibition games as the team attempts to find a quick solution for that position in the sudden absence of Eloy Jimenez, who could be out for the entire 2021 regular season after suffering a ruptured left pectoral on Wednesday. Vaughn was drafted as a first baseman but probably has enough athleticism at age 22 to handle a temporary move to the corner outfield. Making that transition in a week, though, might be too daunting of an ask." |

Aaron judge with his first spring homer
Now if yordan could hit My only hope is yordan was bad in 2019 spring training.... hit 50 homers Bad in 2020 spring training, hit a homer right away before injury He's hopefully just testing out some stuff, plus he's rusty, good time to get the crappy stats out of the way Sent from my SM-G970U1 using Tapatalk Last edited by noaskiecards; 03-25-2021 at 05:38 PM. |

Wait, Julio Rodriguez is "raking" this spring? So how much time manipulation we talking here because I think he should just make the MLB team.

Garrett Cooper is having a very good spring, just homered. Not having the DH this year really blows for his playing time. They gotta figure out how to get him ABs somehow.
