His stuff got pumped to the moon though so people that are into him for thousands (and can’t afford to be) are on pins and needles with every game. If I could have afforded to be a Luka long term holder, I would have been. I had bought before the giant price spike though and sold as it was happening (albeit way too early).

I sell cards in fairly regular intervals for extra cash because I actually need the extra cash flow. Luka and Zion were the only sales I cringed at after completing them because I can see them continuing upward for a while. Once you sell and someone goes atomic, it’s difficult to buy back in if you don’t have a ton of extra cash at your disposal. Hence why I don’t own any Luka right now.

On a different note, we can agree/disagree about Luka, his future, his value, card prices etc., but can we just discuss players and cards with just a bit more civility? There are a lot of player threads that are difficult to sift through now because of all the personal garbage that is brought in to them.

+1. I'm holding as much Luka as anyone but hate coming into this thread. The circle jerk being in blueballz mode right now has the fanboiZ angry and lashing out.

I'm not invested in him. I'm a huge fan with a large collection. It would be nice to have a place to talk about him with other fans without having to deal with the likes of Hellcat, Ferg, Luka, moneychrome, and the rest of those clowns.

Not that hard to discern the pump from legitimate player and hobby talk. This board is an invaluable resource. I'm sorry you don't see it that way.

Maybe putting it in print will make you stop and see how toxic this is, and that it's detrimental to the forum "community". Probably not, and I'll instead get dogpiled on, but whatevs. Toss back a few tonight and chill. Luka will be fine, no need to worry about the portfolios, or the trolls. Watching you get triggered gives them fuel.

Same. I'd be curious to know how much people are "invested" in Luka and how much those cards are currently worth. I'm probably at about $5k invested in Luka and my Luka collection was near $100k last I checked a few weeks ago. I've also sold around $5k along the way so I'm probably much closer to $0 invested in him at this point but I haven't been keeping track of sales.

Got in super early. Got lucky with preferring Optic over Prizm when Optic was 1/4 the price of Prizm. Got in on Revolution right before the take off. Ripped a ton of 18-19 retail whenever I could find it. Traded some other players for Luka. Basically all my moves in 2019 were to acquire Luka and Trae - ripping, buying singles that I liked, trading to not have to move cash.

I'm not too worried about a $5k investment worth nearly $100k after 3 rough games and 1 solid game.

ive never thought about my collection in "investment" terms. i enjoy collecting, and have for a long, long time.

i remember i spent around $200 for this full page. i had to pay $50 (yikes!) for the Red Ice, the most i ever spent on a Luka Card!

And ironically, your ROI over the years likely beats almost every single individual on this board. Funny how that works.

But there’s some ppl on this thread that are so defensive it makes Giannis look like Trae (zing). You point out any objective flaw that you’d like to see improvement on and get attacked like you just stole from their family. It’s gotten just as bad as the Giannis Blowout all-defensive team from a few years ago.

I own a nice stash of Luka cards and I’m holding. I wouldn’t call myself a fan, but I recognize he’s a great player with a bright future ahead, more than likely will be the best player in the league for a long stretch at some point. Some of you who call yourselves fans need to relax. If you’re as confident in him as you say you are, you wouldn’t feel the need to defend at every perceived slight. Who cares what a bunch of nerd card forum guys who missed the boat have to say about a bad game.

Everybody just chill out.

You're right it's just hard sometimes because some of the trolls are insufferable.

I made this thread 2 years ago to talk about Luka it wasn't even so much about cards. Just my love of his game. I don't even own many of his cards, maybe 6 total. I just love talking about the Mavs and Luka in general. There's been so much card money talk it's literally taken over the thread and sometimes i try to bring it back with just basketball talk. So when you see me defending Luka it's rarely ever about cards and more just basketball in general.

TBP helped me appreciate Fine 9’s. I don’t keep spreadsheet like many who do very well. I am or use to be a break and hold kind of guy. I like opening, but prices have gotten out of hand. I was talking to my LCS owner and said there was a time I would have bought out the stock of what he had in inventory and opened it, but when products are $1,000 for a box of 12 packs (Prizm), no thanks.

I'd love to know your collecting strategy. I know you like sealed wax, and if I recall you're not big into grading, is there any overall theme to your collection?

I hear you man. The trolls are at an all time high. Between all the $$, dudes who missed the boat, newbies who have no experience in the hobby, and just the overall crappy state the world is in right now, it’s very easy for some ppl to act a fool on a message board. Only thing you can do is laugh it off tbh.

We all know Luka is going to be the guy, or one of them at least, for a long, long time. And I don’t believe we’re anywhere near the point where there’s a need to panic sell for those who are more “investment” minded. He’s what, 21? If he doesn’t win mvp or make a deep playoff run this season, I don’t think there will be some huge value drop. We all just need to enjoy the ride.

As someone else said earlier in this thread, ppl don’t hate on nobodies.

To quote the great Aaron Rodgers (even though I hate him dearly): everybody needs to “R-E-L-A-X!”

I’m thinking a Luka 30-11-8 next game. He won’t get the triple double because he’s fat and the rolls are hindering his court vision

Pretty much this. lol

also, i am a huge fan of graded cards, just not much of a fan of "Gem Mint Tax", as i feel that 9's and 10s are pretty much the same thing at arms length, so the price difference between the two is crazy

also, 2020 and everything that weve seen happen has driven 9's to prices that are also crazy.... but i cant complain much, as ive been saying for th ebetter part of the last 15 years that 9s were too cheap! LOL

Ive got zero money invested in Luka Doncic, had a few autographs which I sold way too early, ces’t la vie, luckily i didn’t make the same mistake in baseball . Envy and hate towards people that have invested successfully is quite disturbing. There is a big difference between real life sports and cardboard, you think the players give a rats ass about the cyberhate, course not. Left are the collectors/investors who sometimes take life much too serious and can’t cope with any form of criticism regarding their player. You should be able to argue a players achievement without being ridiculed, as long as you are sensible and have valid arguments towards your opinion. If you have nothing constructive to add to the conversation, why even bother visiting this thread, there are far better ways to deal with anger issues.

See you all in 2021 .

I don't think anyone was waiting for the first game of the season hoping for a big game so they could sell all their Lukas. Fans were just hoping for a better start to the season but it's ok, they have a long season ahead of them.

On a lighter note, I only have one Luka card listed on ebay. I just got a message and when I opened it, it simply said "I already have this card". That's it. I just started laughing. I really feel like doing that with every card on ebay I own right now.

Like i said people complaining about Luka's slow start but he's still averaging 24-6-6.

Does anyone want to bet me those numbers will go down for the entire season?

I will take on all betters so step up if you feel so confident.

And that's with only playing 25 minutes in the last two games because of the blowouts.

Like i thought no one's got the balls. I will bet a blaster of 2018 Prizm to anyone who thinks Luka's numbers will fall from now throughout the season. Make me an equal offer and you've got a deal. ( not directed at you btw) just the trolls
