Does anyone think they will give us utility for owning or should we just sell/trade them in?

I did, but it didn't give me anything. I had to buy 2 raptors moments which was $24.

Then the Bosh ($7) + the 2 raptors ($16) only gave me back $23. Waste of time.

Yeah, i meant actual utility, like Cool Cats. Not to that level, but something unique, like holders get an extra 20 points per moment or something as an example.

The showcase challenge wasn't really one where you "needed" the wades. It just said 3 heat moments, so if you didn't have Wade, you didn't have to buy that, you could have bought any Miami moment .

So I'm late to the game and was just checking out the site. How much of an investment do I have to make to really participate? It says I can buy a $9 pack to start which I assume is a waste of $9. How much more do I have to spend to get something decent? I know that's an impossible question, but ballpark...hundreds? thousands?

It depends what you are looking to do. You can collect moments you like, invest in moments you think will rise or are undervalued, you can play the collector score game, you can try to identify bottlenecks, or you can slowly build through packs. $1000 creatively used can get you pretty deep in the game.

I would wait until they have a Rare pack drop. The only problem is you'll need a certain collector score for a chance at getting a pack. The collector score makes it really tough for new users to acquire anything really good without spending decent amounts of money. The whole reason I think the collector score is dumb, it puts new users at a big disadvantage. Someone else here will be able to give you better advice though.

If you're a football fan, waiting for the NFL version of Top Shot might be the best way to go. At least that way you will be starting on an even playing field, not one that's tilted to early adopters.

Define “decent”? You can buy moments on the marketplace. Decide what you consider decent and check out prices. The best moment I have is Donte Divincenzo Metallic Gold LE /299 with current value of $279 and was selling for over $2000 at the peak of the market. There are many series with different mint numbers. There are some Lebron moments with avg sale around $30 and some with avg of $130k and some that have sold over $200k. There are lots of commons now in $2 range. So there is something for everyone

I’m sure there won’t be an even playing field. Beta will probably be invite first like NBA. I’ve been in TS way before collector score was a thing and sure anyone with an account had a chance to get a rare pack but the odds were about as good as winning Powerball and most of the packs went to bots. The current system is much better in my opinion even though I usually only qualify for tier 2 or 3 on those drops. I spent many days in queue for 8 hours in the past with pauses and stops and starts on queue to come away empty handed. It’s definitely not perfect now but I think the collector score system and other changes has at least leveled the playing field against bot accounts but maybe I’m naïve

I didn’t join until March but I thought it was much better prior to the collector score being implemented. Sure you would miss out on getting packs every time but at least it seemed fair for everyone. I thought the queue system and other measures they put in, kind of took care of the bot problem but I don’t know for sure. I guess I’m in the minority in regard to collector scores.

I think at the moment you can get a $19 Archive pack.

Collector score was the worst thing they could have done in my opinion. It only served to reward huge spenders or people who got in early and stayed the course. It does nothing to benefit new users and honestly, it probably deters new users altogether. It’s a great tool to reward big spenders and long time users but a terrible tool to entice new users to join the site.

Again, they should be putting in insert moments into base packs at a very low drop rate. Just having base moments in a pack isn’t going to do it for folks.

It’s no different than those who joined the sports card market post-Pandemic. I joined TS during the All-Star game. I’ve put about $650 in. Have a 500 CS. Have a TS collection worth something around $2k. I enjoy it as something to do on the side. I’m content with not having a high CS or collection worth six figures.
