They do not go through the terminal to board their plane, so probably no metal detectors - their Instagram feed shows them boarding for road trips a lot of times, and they're on their own tarmac.

TSA checks every passenger regardless of what they’re traveling on.

Ja has some maturing to do but so do all 20 somethings. I think he is somewhat on an island tho to the fact that given he is rich I think the tough guy gangster stuff seems totally unnecessary. It’s almost in a way disrespectful to people that actually live that way to combat poverty. And it’s certainly not something many nba fans can resonate with or understand. At this point I guess the bright side would be maybe he crashes out and messes up his money and opportunities just so other people can learn what not to do. He is basically living a real life version of the old Dave Chappalle skit “When keeping it real goes wrong “

If he produces on the court how will he ever bounce back from this?

I mean it's not like a guy who did a hit-and-run on a pregnant woman and had domestic violence issues is being praised universally as the GOAT today or anything with no mention of said issues lol Ja's career is clearly done now that he showed a gun on video, might as well prepare his bunk next to Ruggs now to save time

And every time TSA has been audited, it's been shown that the miss roughly 80-90% of the stuff people try to smuggle through.

Security theater at its best.....surprised that "small-government" Republicans haven't tried to shut down the entire department....millions of airplane passengers would thank them.

I would think he can partially bounce back, but not fully. This is now part of his legacy- however that turns out to be. People have a short memory - but not for crazy, endorsement killing behavior like this!

Which is very different from not screening at all.

Id rather be stripped naked, have my legs broken and be tied to a pole with hundred dollar bills covering my body in the worst part of Chicago than walk alone through the worst part of Memphis.

IF... he can straighten things out and stop with the nonsense he will bounce back completely. At the end of the day he's a 23 year old kid making bad decisions. He has all the wrong people around him that have nothing to lose and riding the wave of fame and money. I'm sure that's what's being pumped into his head right now with this "break". The hardest thing most athletes or celebrities have to do in life is cutting out those people, most of them they've known their entire lives.

Up until recently Ja has seemed like a good kid with a very likeable personality so I hope he wises up before he goes down with the ship.

Have you ever actually spent significant time here? I have lived in Memphis for 20 years, and we absolutely have our problems, but let's not get carried away (plus, on the whole "violent crime rate" statistical measurement, we're only 4th now).

I was born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, which for like ten years running has been named the best place to visit in the country. There are places there where it is just as bad as places here.

I’ve got you all beat! I’ve lived my whole life 45 minutes away from one the deadliest Cities on Earth - Baltimore. Our nightly news has the crime of a whole month in almost any other city -hardly time to squeeze in the weather report

Baltimore was only #3 St. Louis was 1 and Detroit was 2.

The metric this random page is using is defined as:
"Violent crime is defined as a crime in which the offender or perpetrator uses or threatens to use force upon a victim. Violent crimes include homicide, murder, assault, rape, robbery, kidnapping, negligence, manslaughter, and sexual assault."

All that said, this has zero to do with him being here in Memphis. I know what part of town he lives in, and he's nowhere near the worst part of town, and I promise he's not hanging out there either. You don't see Bane or Jaren getting into this nonsense. Bottom lining this - the people around Ja seem to be problematic and need to be held at arm's distance, and that's hard because that circle includes his parents to a degree (it was apparently his mother that instigated the incident at the mall.)

St Louis resident here! Always hard for me to believe we’ve become the nation’s deadliest city, as it’s never felt that way to me. I’ve lived in a couple different areas here, frequently visit downtown and have friends that live right outside downtown. I’m sure it’s the same story as the other cities (Baltimore, Memphis, etc.), most places are perfectly nice, but the violence is concentrated within a couple areas and gives the entire city a bad reputation. I will freely admit that I’m aware of where “not to go” here, so I just don’t experience the nastiness that creates the poor reputation.

Regarding Ja… I really hope he turns it around. He seemed like a guy that was hungry to be a great player, but recently has obviously found other priorities. I’m certainly not an investor but have a modest collection of nice Ja cards that were pulled while chasing Zion. If I’m being honest, I’ll probably just sell my stuff once he inevitably gets back on the court and strings together some nice games. I’m finding it hard to root for the guy and would rather just move on.

This right there ^^^

Bad things happen everywhere. It's naive to think otherwise. We lived in Atlanta until my wife graduated law school, and we moved here. I wasn't thrilled with the move because I liked Atlanta, but you couldn't pay me to move back. I love it here in Memphis.

Hell no, I drove through it several times a year when I lived in Georgia and never felt the need to take a vacation there. Compared to Chicago, Memphis has significantly higher rates of crime per capita in basically every category. I think living somewhere for long enough you just get used to how things are, especially if you avoid the bad parts. Statistics can't really be argued with. You can argue "there are bad parts of town everywhere" which is true, but conversely most places have a nicer part of town as well and that part of town being livable doesn't erase the amount of crime happening elsewhere.

"We're only 4th now" lol.

Bottom-lining it - there are bad places in every major city. Does my city have issues? Of course. Someone has to be the worst, and that's just how it is.

Badmouthing a place you've never been is lame, and overlooks all the great things about a place.

But, you also admitted you really have no idea because you've never been here – your uniformed opinion doesn't hold any water.

It's informed by crime statistics, which holds more water than the "I live in the nice part of town" seat of the pants feeling as well. You aren't gonna convince anyone a city in the top 5 most dangerous cities in the US is "about the same as anywhere else" haha. There were nice parts of Baghdad and neat things to see there too but you ain't gonna catch me wanting to go back to visit.
