One of my friends just posted it on Facebook so I think the sales are getting ready to start again. Like you, I'm a sucker for Tagalongs.

Fanatics - maybe virtue signaling but reads to me more inspiring. Ymmv on that perception.
Dillo dude - so much virtue signaling it's borderline a parody.
Like corndog, I like the way you said this. I tried to say something similar. You said it much better.

You’re a lucky man, serious question how often do they have cookie sales as I haven’t seen one in awhile. We should start a poll about everyone’s favorite girls scout cookies. My top 2 are Tagalongs and Thin Mints, but I will happily eat any kind.

Time for me to start stalking the front of Kroger again.

Your examples would only be virtue signaling if you were doing them not out of respect or desire but because someone is pushing you to do it or it's a perceived moral righteousness and/or because of that push or perceived moral righteousness, you brag about doing it to get something in return or as not to fall victim to being shamed by those pushing it.
I would add to this that the person that does it does not necessarily have to agree with what they themselves are doing. They are doing it just to make themselves look "good".

That's exactly what they are doing: attempting to "shame" people into believing what the shamers want them to believe.

Just from a quick google search, it looks like the barbecue controversy is from 2019.

- The woman in question was a recluse who grew her own food and liked to be left alone.

- New neighbors moved in, started grilling fish next to the fence, smoking heavily, and letting their kids play loudly in the back yard. (None of those things being illegal in Australia)

- The neighbors actually stopped barbecuing and letting their kids play in the backyard after she complained—but she still took the issue to court.

- That's when the "thousands" began registering for a meat cook out across the street. However, when most of the people who had registered found out that the neighbors in question were Vietnamese immigrants, they dropped out and only a few hundred showed up.

- The courts tossed her case out.

We don’t know any of the sellers situations so shaming them is really unnecessary. I haven’t sold a card yet because of a person or players tragedy but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t . If I came upon hard times and really needed the money I would. Thank goodness this scenario doesn’t happen that often what’s funny is I have had a Pele Ginter no numbered mini up on eBay forever and there is still no interest in it.

I’ll just say this, if you would have popped in the thread to just drop this nugget and leave, no one could have disagreed with you. Well said.

This might be the most disappointing thing I've ever read from you.

The fact that you felt the need to make such an unnecessary comparison of the "worth" of human lives shows me that you're not in a good space for having these conversations.

(And in case it gets brought up, there was a discussion in the other thread about how death from old age doesn't produce the same level of shock and grief as the unexpected death of a young person. That was a separate and nuanced discussion. Unlike what we're seeing here.)

It makes me feel even worse for the neighbors (again, not virtue signaling here).

- Move to a new country and have your neighbor start threatening you for doing normal things in your own backyard.

- Do your best to accommodate them (even though you don't have to).

- Still get taken to court.

- Try to stay anonymous when the media attention gets hot.

- Watch the outpouring of support dry up when people find out your race/immigration status.

Life is messy.

Took an actual lunch break today and got myself a new pair of shoes. They are so nice. I will not wear them to weedwhack.

Yes when people can’t decide what they are really angry about.

So eating a salad at this event would be virtue signaling?

Eating a salad is always virtue signaling.

Unless it's ribbon salad.

Glad you took a lunch and glad you like the shoes, always important to have shoes for weed whacking and shoes for show.
