Default Dan Vogelbach traded to Mariners for Mike Montgomery

Source confirms: #Cubs getting Montgomery from #Mariners for Vogelbach. First reported: @Kurkjian_ESPN, @JeffPassan.

Discuss.

This deal makes sense for the Cubs with where they're at as a team, but I think they overpaid. They could've gotten more for Vogelbach.

If history serves, Vogelbach will fizzle as a Mariner then be traded elsewhere where he becomes an All-Star.

What makes you think they could have gotten more? He wasn't going to go to a NL team so that cut trade partners by half. They have been shopping him for a while with what seemed like not a lot of interest. They got exactly what they needed.

Hard to say that, we don't know what his value was to MLB FO's. 1st base/DH only prospect with questionable power.

I think it's a good get for the Ms, but I also think that's a bad place for him.

Extremely patient power hitter, Mariner fans are going to love Vogelbach.

I thought the Cubs would've packaged him together with another prospect or two for Miller or Chapman. I guess the Yankees weren't interested.

CUBS CHOKED!

Montgomery is a nice asset and will help but they could have gotten so much more for Vogelbach

Mariners still stink

Jon Morosi ‏@jonmorosi 31s31 seconds ago
In other words: #Mariners and #Cubs finalizing a trade that may ultimately include more players than Vogelbach and Montgomery.

Laughed whenver I read suggesting they trade him
For champman
Heck, read one person suggest for chapman and Beltran

Read Andrew Miller for him

--- I don't sound so crazy now when I predicted Soler for Quackenbush

How do people assume the Cubs could have gotten so much more for a DH with a far from guaranteed bat?

He's hit wherever he's been, brought the power with him, doesn't strike out as much as minor league power hitters do

I think getting a power lefty under control is a pretty good get for a player who was never going to play for the Cubs.

I love Vogelbach, but if it's a one-for-one (remains to be seen), I think it's perfectly rational for both sides. He wasn't likely to get time in Chicago absent injury, and being limited to 1B/DH hampers his trade value. Montgomery is versatile and has been dominant this year versus lefties, and he's controllable for five years.

This is his first year really showing power over a prolonged period. Has been around a 160 iso which is mediocre for a DH.

I still like this for the Mariners, I just don't think he's that valuable. Safeco is also a terrible fit for him.

Double A right-hander Paul Blackburn also heading from #Cubs to #Mariners.

At least Vogelbach made it to the AL.

Does this mean Adam Lind's days are numbered?

I see Triple A; Blackburn is in Double A and the Cubs would be absolutely stupid to part with Blackburn and Vogelbach for anything the Mariners think they can put together

Now if it's Pierce Johnson, that makes sense

Best case, Edgar Martinez V. 2.

Kudos to Seattle. They did well even before Blackburn was announced.
