Default Gerrit Cole throws 94-pitch complete game....

Just thought I'd point this out since it probably hasn't been done in a while (i.e. complete game with <100 pitches).

Heck, these days its pretty rare to even see someone throw a complete game...

I was at a Phillies game in DC where Cliff Lee threw a sub 100 pitch shutout I believe it was. Really fun fast paced game to be at. That may have been the last one.

It was a beauty to watch, first CG of his career. He had a long 1st inning but he really bounced back

Yeah it was surprising to see him finish the game under 100 pitches considering he had a 20 pitch 1st inning and a 8 pitch at bat against Cano in the 9th. But he was hitting his spots pretty much the entire game

Didn't they use to call these Greg Maddux games (bc he was rather famous for these)?

June 19th Weaver threw 95 pitch complete game shutout.

Quintessential Maddux. 3+ future hall of famers were in the game also.

Last Night Ervin Santana threw a CG with 97 pitches. He's the 1st player this year to throw a CG and get the loss. It's not that surprising...

76 pitches....I wonder if that's the record for fewest pitches in a complete game...

I don't think this record will ever be broken considering the dying art of the complete game and the increased value placed on the walk/OBP

Steven Wright threw a complete game loss earlier this season, so did Madison Bumgarner against Pittsburgh I believe

Everytime I see Cole have a performance like this, I wish I had held onto the orange ref. auto I had of him. His intensity is unparalled, IMO.

Why are we getting away from pitching a complete game? The game we just went to had a clean up guy that comes in during the 7th inning regardless of how the pitcher is doing. I heard some older gentleman behind me complain about it for a solid 20 minutes. "There are no good f*cking pitchers in baseball anymore" is what stood out to me the most of his rant. Some of it was a little incoherent and my husband was also talking to me about how great it was to eat a hot dog at Wrigley.

Until we implement limit use of relief pitchers.

Charles Henry "Red" Barrett (February 14, 1915 – July 28, 1990) was a Major League Baseball pitcher who played 11 total career seasons in the National League. He played for the Cincinnati Reds, Boston Braves and St. Louis Cardinals. He pitched the shortest complete game by fewest pitches (58) in history.
