Default How many duplicates of the same card do you have?

We've all heard of people hoarding cards like Mel Gibson did of Catcher in the Rye from Conspiracy Theory. I personally don't do any doubles at all, but wanted to hear from you all. What is the highest # of single card you have, how many do you have, who is it of, and why?

Probably 100 or so of 1990 Topps Frank Thomas rookie cards. I hoard them so I can use them as practice in perfecting NNOF versions that cannot be determined as fake. In all seriousness, I thought at one time it would be cool to have 500 of them for no real good reason. I have since given up on that quest.

Someone on Ebay is selling 25K or more of 1987 Topps Ruben Sierra rookie cards. From what I recall, these all came from a giant collection purchase.

I love picking up duplicate #'D cards for my Colome collection. I guess it's just a fun challenge to see how many of one card I can find. The most of a single card is the 2013 Bowman Draft Blue Paper Alex Colome which I believe I have around 50 of the 500 copies!

Back in the day, I bought junk wax era lots of George Brett for 1-2 cents a card. I wound up with over 1,000 1988 Fleer & 1989 Topps Bretts, and about 2 monster boxes full altogether. A few years ago, I had a hard time remembering why I ever thought that was a good idea, so I dumped all but one of each.

I do have about 30 1975 Brett RCs in varying conditions, I think that's the most I have of any card now.

I own 8 of the 20 1998 Leaf Fractal Materials Z2-Axis die cuts Vinny Castilla. Just picked them up whenever they hit eBay. Haven't seen one for sale in many years.

Most of my cards are doubles as I hoard base cards, but probably the leader in the clubhouse is 2013 Bowman Lucas Giolito (Paper version) - last count was 133.

I also have ~20 cases worth of base from 2014 Draft, but they aren't sorted so who knows how many I have of each card there.

I feel like I must have 100 or more of 1983 Topps Paul Householder cards, seemed like every pack I opened had one. I am a Reds fan so loved it at the time (I was also 9).

@corockies - that is crazy!

I always thought it would be kind of a fun novelty type of collection for a player collector to have a factory set of the cards his guy was in, remove the set and replace with his guy only.

For instance, @Big35Hurt if you picked up that massive Ruben Sierra collection, you could buy a factory set of 1987 Topps, and replace with 792 1987 Topps Ruben Sierra

I don't really care for dupes, unless it's patches because they're different. But as for buying the same card twice, I don't find it fun because I only have so much to spend on cards and I have a lot others than I need more than buying more of one I already have.

I have about 150 1990 Score Bernie Williams rookies. Somebody had a box of them available for 10 bucks or so so I figured why not.

That was 15 years ago, I still have them for some reason. Exciting story, no?

I have about 20 1988 Topps Nolan Ryan cards left. I bought a large Ryan lot for less than a penny per card many years ago and I think there were over a 100 of them when I received it.

There are over 500 cards in my collection I have duplicates of. I would say most are not intentional, most I've picked up/acquired through lots. However, I have picked up a few duplicates of low ser #d cards intentionally. I figure I could use them for trade bait or in some cases because of the chance that they'd grade higher than the copy I have.

I've finally started cataloging my Billy Butler collection and am finding out that I have multiples of several of his early auto cards. Not a terrible problem to have but it would have been nice if I channeled some of the money spent on duplicates to new cards for the collection.

In the early 90's, Topps sponsored the NCAA Golden Spikes Award for the best collegiate baseball player in the country. They made a limited number of cards each year for the winner of the award, and they were handed out at the ceremony to be used as promotional business cards.

The first year was 1990, and Alex Fernandez (University of Miami) was the winner. It looks just like the 1991 Topps Debut issue on the front, but the back is different:

After searching for many years, I got in contact with a reporter from the NY/NJ area who was at the Golden Spikes ceremony in 1990. He stayed around after the presentation and cleaned up all of the cards left out on the table by others. There were 600 copies of this card created, and to date, I own 405 of them. This scan shows as many as I could fit on my scanner at the same time. I haven't spread them all out to photograph lately.

Too many base cards of Daniel Robertson to count, but here are some of my more impressive dupes:

(3) 2014 Bowman Chrome Orange Refractor Autographs /25 (One BGS 9.5/10)
(9) 2014 Bowman Chrome Green Refractor Autographs /75
(3) 2014 Bowman Chrome Mini Red Refractors /5 (missed 1 a few months ago)
(2) 2014 Bowman Chrome Mini Magenta Refractors /3

Crap that reminds me that I have close to 300 of the 1987 Topps George Brett card. Some were purchases, many were obtained buying collections or ripping open dozens of boxes of that product and some were even given as a gift.

Tanner,
I think I have roughly (800) 2014 Bowman Draft Derek Fisher but the ones that count for me are these for my PC:

(50) of who knows how many?
2015 THHN Byron Buxton Action SPs

(4) of the 10
2015 A&G Christian Walker Red Ink Autos

(5) w/ 6 & 7 coming of the 25
2015 TC Anthony Rendon Orange Ref.

Thanks for this thread Tanner! Pretty cool stuff showing up.
Jeff

Man, those Rendons remind me. I have about 120 2012 Bowman Chrome non-autos and another 100-150 or so Bowman paper autos. I bought them on here a few years ago...I wish I could remember who from. I love that guy!
